Just a question for the ladies here...
What bridal magazines have been the most helpful and useful to you, and why?

martha stewart weddings! i think her style just matches mine (or what I would LIKE to be my style). there are a lot of cute ideas and lots and lots of pictures, even if real weddings, so I like that. Even if the idea seems expensive or hard to do it at least gives me an idea of what I would like to do and then I can work from there to figure out how to get that look.

for wedding dresses I would say the knot one that is huge and has a ton of dresses. great way to start getting ideas.

A few years ago, when I started putting together a book of things I liked, (attn. LIW: start now) I loved the Southern Living Weddings magazine which is no longer available. Second best is The Knot because they will highlight weddings in your region of the country; got lots of ideas from those. Third best for me was Austin Wedding Day magazine; also a regional publication that may have its own incarnation whereever you are located. We found our classical guitarist through an ad in AWD. Least helpful to me was the MODERN BRIDE or BRIDES magazines; and I must admit that while I like the look of Martha Stewart, I got zero ideas from it.

And, as I said in the Hangout thread, I get a vicarious thrill from InStyle Weddings, if only to poke fun at how many celeb marriages have gone up in smoke since being featured in this rag.

I like the Instyle Weddings mag as well as Brides and Modern Bride.

Is anyone else completely APPALLED at the price of bridal magazines? I saw one that was $10! I could buy a paperback book for less.

Another enthusiastic vote for Martha Stewart Weddings--by far the best style (IMO) and unique ideas. A lot of mags just seem to have a million adds for tacky dresses and invitations.

Ditto-it''s the only one I''ve seen that''s any good at all!

I love Martha Stewart Wedding magazine, it''s my favorite, as well.

Is Wedding Belles still around? A friend of mine was engaged back in 2002 and I loved her Wedding Belles magazine, but I can''t seem to find it anywhere.

This thread is perfect because I just went to the bookstore to buy a wedding magazine but I was completely overwhelmed by all the styles, so I left empty-handed.

Thanks! Martha Stewart is what I was thinking. The others are like 50% ads. Crazy!
Plus, Brides and Modern Bride are published by the same company. I''m sure the content is SO VERY different.

I went online to order Martha Stewart Weddings and it''s $16.00 for four magazines! I get all my other magazines for like a dollar an issue.
Argh. I guess I''ll just have to get used to throwing money away if I want any wedding at all huh.

Yes, a little more expensive--but they will be worth it b/c i am sure you''ll get usable ideas from them--i did.
Better to pay for some ''inspirtation'' rather than a bunch of mags full of stuff you know you ''don''t want''

also, if you have a friend who gets engaged around the time of you wedding it makes a nice ''hand-me-down'' engagement gift to hand off a big pile of some-what recent mags (a friend just did this for me with pregnancy mags and I was SO happy!).
The good thing about Martha is that she features high-end goods and usually sets the trends (e.g. the candy buffet) so her ideas are usually not fully ''in vouge'' for a couple of years after publication
(haha, do i analyze this stuff much?!)

I got really lucky with the Martha Stewart mags...my friend got married last year and she saved all her mags for me so I could have them! I suggest that if you have friends who have mags get them from them! Because I noticed that the mags didn''t change that much from last year to this year.

AND totally go to her website, a ton of stuff that is in the mags is online. So if you go to borders and flip through the magazine at the store and find something you like, go to the website and see if they have it there too. Saves you the hassel of buying the mag. :D

Martha Stewart is amazing.

Magazines here in the UK are unbelievably tacky and horrible.

There is one place in London that sells Martha Stewart and it''s totally out of the way of my normal routes - but I go there just to buy it.

I got the latest one in NY last week to read on the plane. FI wouldn''t let me bring it back to the UK as it weighed a ton, so I spent yesterday morning massacring it for all the pages I wanted - the recipes are sooooo good.
