Hello.

I don''t wear too much makeup -- mostly natural colors, that accentuate not overpower.

i''m looking for a foundation, something sheer and easy to apply that sort of just evens out my complexion.

i''ve tried a liquid one from aveda, but i don''t completely love it.

I''m a huge fan of what not to wear on TLC and carmindy the makeup artist sometimes uses this spray foundation that she first puts on a sponge? anyone use something like that. or maybe a cream foundation?

thanks

Lulu, I used to spend hundreds of dollars a year on foundation, but the last three or four years I just stopped wearing makeup... I'm not sure what happened. These days, I tend to use tinted moisturizers and they work pretty well. Bobbi Brown is one of my favorites. I must say, though, when you're hot and sweaty (in the summer, for instance) the moisturizer ones are a bit too sticky for my taste.

There is one product I purchased not long ago at Beauty First - something Minerals... it's a liquid foundation and worked really, really well... until I lost it.

Let me see if I can find a link to it.

ETA: okay,I thought it was bareMinerals, but looking at the site, I don't think it is... bareMinerals sound like some sort of "As seen on TV" product, and this definitely wasn't... I'll keep digging.

Bare Minerals is definitely good for evening out skin tone. Plus I can apply it in like ten seconds if I''m in a hurry

Currently I''m using Sue Devitt Triple Seaweed gel foundation which works really well at evening out skin tones. I would say its coverage is sheer to medium, depending on how you apply it.

I really, really like Bare Minerals, however I have problems finding a foundation color that really matches my skin since their selection is rather limited.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE La Prairie.

It''s the lightest and silkiest on the skin, and I''ve tried alot of foundations.
But, its shockingly expensive...but, it also comes with the matching concealer built into the lid too.

The saleswoman at Neiman''s gave me a free sample and I was hooked...It''s almost like drugs.

But my skin looks GREAT!!!

i''ve started using bare minerals and LOVE it. the coverage is great and it feels so amazingly light (well...it is!) my face has never felt so good. i would highly recommend going to sephora and having them help you to find the right color. my skin is very light, but the ''light'' colors were all too yellow for me. i ended up getting the medium kit (more blue based) and purchasing the ''fair'' foundation to mix with it since ''fair'' (which is the lightest you can get) was too light by itself. the kits are the way to start out. they have everything you need and cost much less than purchasing the items seperately.

best of luck to you!

hmm..I have some bare minerals, but find it kind of a hassle to use. Maybe I''m doing it wrong. I even bought a kabuki brush thinking that would help - it didn''t, sadly.

what I''d love to find is some of the spray foundation. I''ve seen it on ''what not to wear'' and it''s amazing - you spray it onto a makeup sponge and then just LIGHTLY put it on your skin to even out the tones. Thus far, my searches have only found super expensive kinds ($65 per can/bottle) and I just don''t want to go that high.

hi lulu,

I have tried a bazillion foundations (yet to try bare minerals, which i may when i run out) but I always seem to go back to Mary Kay timewise. its in a tube and applies like a lotion so its easy to spread and gives good coverage but also makes my skin feel fresh (meaning not heavy and also feels like it helps control oil)

I have tried stick foundations (too heavy or too sheer) and i am never satisfied with liquid foundations because they go on so sheer and i end up using a few coats and then it looks heavy, or its hard to apply right. i think the way the MK is formulated really makes a difference for me.

good luck!

Oh my gosh, I must tell you all... in an effort to figure out what freakin'' makeup I was using before I lost the bottle... I ran into bareMinerals (because as you can see above, it sounded similar to the name of the product I was using).

I stumbled upon the bareMinerals website and it seemed like some sort of makeup I''d seen before on an infomercial... hence the ETA in my first post here.

Then I noticed that a lot of people were making positive comments about bareMinerals and thought... hmmm... I actually really do need foundation right now, why don''t I read some more... and the more I read the more appealing it seemed to me.

So, on the way home from work, I dropped by Sephora and picked up a starter kid.

SERIOUSLY, this is the best foundation product I have EVER used! I''m sorry if referring to it as some "AS SEEN ON TV" product offended any regular users of it... I was simply confused... but confused I am no longer.

This stuff is really great. While I''ve never had skin problems and don''t have a lot to cover up, I do like the even, flawless look foundation gives. I''ve never before achieved such a healthy and glowing look, and it was so simple. It didn''t cake on, it matches perfectly. It''s really super.

Thank you girls.

Another vote for BareMinerals. I LOVE the stuff.

I bought the starter kit after catching one of the infomercials a couple of months ago. I''ve gotten a ton of compliments on my skin. I do admit that sometimes i feel like i need more spot coverage, like for my dark circles, and little spots (OK, zits) that pop up here and there. So, I''m going over to one of their L.A-area boutiques tomorrow for a session with a BM artist from one of their "traveling" makeup teams. They often make appearances at boutiques throughout the country. The dates are posted on the website.

hmmm..i think i need to find out if they are going to be in my area!
btw - eBay happens to be a pretty great place for bare minerals products.

i bought a kabuki brush and a touchup brush (or whatever it''s called!) they were brand new, in sealed packages with the Bare Minerals name/logo on them, just like the ones sold on their website and in their stores, for less than 1/2 the price.

also got a sample of their mineral veil from eBay because I wasn''t sure if I wanted to use it or not!

i''m still trying to figure it out though, and it shouldn''t be this complicated. i don''t like the ''powdery'' look i end up with - mostly i end up looking REALY pale, and i''m pale enough without any help.

anyone have any tips?

HI:

I use and love Dior products--including their Dior Lift foundation. It is a bit tenacious, so I "cut" it with some tinted moisturizer for easy application.

cheers--Sharon

Can''t say enough good things about Almay "Nearly Naked" touchpad liquid makeup or Almay "Smart Shade" makeup. Up until about a year ago, I use to spend $60.00 on Channel. I didn''t wear it often; but, as my skin ages - I find that I need foundation more to even out my skin tone. Channel is not an everyday foundation. The scent got to me as did the more heavy nature. Then I stumbled upon "nearly naked" at about $12.00 and then Almay "Smart Shade". I love both products. They last, look very natural & I don''t feel like I have anything on my face. No scent to boot!

I like clinuqe almost makep up, Perscriptives traceless and covergirl smoothers. They are all super light with sunscreen. I wear bareminels on and of but it is too heavy to wear daily and doesnt mix well with spf 50. (I like my pasty princess skin, and I fear Sun poisioning).

HI:

I am sensitive to many make up fragrances--and especially do not like it in foundations. I was at the CD counter yesterday to learn they are D/C''ing the Dior Lift I presently use, but have another product to replace it..and in addition they have a new product that is a liquid but goes on dry like powder and felt absolutely dreamy to touch but the scent.......too much for me.....

cheers--Sharon

I love all Dior lipsticks including the Dior Addict Ultra-Shine, which is super-shiny and very moisturizing but still very natural-looking ...

But my favorite make-up & skin-care line (including foundation in response to this thread), is by Nars ...

Nars'' Balanced Foundation and pressed powder are beautiful together - - very natural and matte looking, and it really feels like you''re not wearing any ... Nars also makes a new powder-foundation that''s very nice.

And the Nars Skin Freshening Serum and Toner are to die for!

I believe Nars cosmetics are made by Shesheido (sp?) - - Nars'' colors are great and they have some really nice make-up palettes, too.

I just love to "play" at the Nars counter at Saks or L&T, and especially to get my make-up done by one of those FABULOUS make-up artists ...

I like Shiseido Powdery Foundation...it''s matte, so if you don''t like matte, it''s not for you. When it first goes on it looks a little powdery, but let it sit for 20 minutes and it looks great, a very polished, pulled together look. I use it with a wet sponge for a more even coverage. It lasts all day, and if I sleep in it, it still looks great in the morning and I don''t break out.

well, I used to use Clinique foundation.....until I saw the infomercial for Sheer Cover....which I think is the same concept as BareMinerals....its a powder mineral foundation, and I absolutely love it! It feels like I have nothing on, and its coverage is awesome! you can spot apply it , say on top of a zit, or a freckle, and it disappears!

now I am wondering how the cost compares to BareMinerals.....hmmm,,,,going to go do some research.

Jetmal - I have seen the infomercials, is it really that good? It just seems an incredible thing for a powder to be able to do....I have been tempted to try it!

Hi there! Your skin is beautiful and IMO you don't need liquid foundation. All you might need is some concealer for any little spots and the undereye area, plus a powder foundation (applied with a big fluffy brush). I HIGHLY recommend MAC Studio Fix powder. It's a powder compact and comes with a sponge applicator, but if you brush it on it goes on really lightly and naturally. Since it's a powder foundation, it offers coverage as well as mattifies your skin. I use it every day and it evens out my skin tone perfectly without making it look like I have anything caked on.

(I've tried Bare Minerals and on my skin, it doesn't work at all. It offers me NO coverage whatsoever. But I know that many people love their products so I'm probably just a freak of nature!)

Just a thought...and you might have already done this, but have you emailed the "What not to wear" show and asked about the spray foundation? I just wondered since that seemed to be one that you seem most impressed with.

I too have used the BareEscentuals mineral foundation and am not too impressed. It is heavier than I normally wear foundation. I use their Mineral Veil daily over my Adaptive foundation by Lancome. I apply my liquid foundation with a brush and only where I need it. I detest my skin feeling smothered or "made up" with foundation.

Quite honestly, I would probably try the spray on foundation if I were you. If you do not need much coverage, either that foundation or any other that is brush applied may do the trick. There is alot to choose from...powder, creme to powder, liquid, spray on...as well as a wide range of products depending on your budget.

With regard to foundation, I personally would advise to purchase the best the you an afford for your budget. A foundation that nicely evens out ones skin is a worthy investment. Colorations for the cheeks, lips, and eyes you can compromise on, but a foundation sets the stage for all the rest after a good skin care regime. Just my thoughts on the subject...

Thanks Deanne
That would be great! I loved the super light but even coverage they seem to give on the program.
I even went to Carmandy''s website to see if she had any ''favourite products'' listed, but there wasn''t anything like that at all.

I''ll keep researching, too and will let you know if I find anything of interest.

Scintillating posted this on another thread:

Era Face Spray by Classified Cosmetics -

It''s the spray foundation used on "What Not To Wear"

also, Dior makes a spray foundation.

oh! hey lovelylulu! thank you - that ends my search
sadly, at $55.00 per container, I won''t be buying it any time soon!
