Ok Ladies... So my best friend of 14 years got engaged two nights ago! I am so excited for her that I feel like I got engaged! I would really like to throw her some sort of party... I guess my question is... What is appropriate? Do I throw a shower with just a bunch of girls or do I do an Engagement party for both of them. I think I would feel more comfortable doing it just for her, being that I don''t know his family and friends really. Has anyone done this? Is it too soon to be thinking about this?

Any insight would be really helpful!

Hmmm... I don''t know what the right thing to do would be but, I think it''s very sweet of you to want to do something for her.

I like your idea of just a bunch of girls.

Maybe a girls night out... or even a girls night in?

I think defiantly a girls brunch or maybe a day at the races something ULTRA girly and fun to mark the event.

Oooo... I like Deelight''s idea of a day at the races and brunch! Maybe get manicure''s and/or pedicures... at a career fair at school recently I signed up for a free (she was giving them out for free for all the one''s who signed up that day) in home spa treatment session. She would do a one-on-one session or a group of friends. I decided to ask a friend of mine who I will be a bridesmaid for in December if she would like to do that with all the other bridesmaids as a way to relax either before the wedding or after the wedding and all the holidays. Maybe they have something like that where you are? It''d be fun to do snacks and drinks and have someone come in and pamper you, your friend and all your girlfriends!

A day at the races? What does that mean? like horse races? I was really thinking about a girls only night with fun drinks and all of our friends that we don''t get to see often that will be home for the christmas holiday. Is this not appropriate? I do like the brunch idea, but it would have to include Bloody Mary''s and Mimosas!

I thought horse races too when I read it.

If you stayed in you could do a girls only cocktail party and have all kinds of girly drinks. If you like the martini''s I''ve heard of ALL different kinds... maybe you could try to each invent your own martini?

Yup I am talking about the horse races :P

Here it is tradition for girls to get dressed up in cocktail dresses (and hats and fascinators on Melbourne Cup Day :P though I am sure if you wore one anytime you would be fine well maybe not a fascinator) and boys in suits and go watch the horses race and drink champagne and cocktails :). Loads of fun :).

A night in with cocktails also sounds mighty good to me too :)

i don''t know if you''ve ever heard of Pampered Chef, but they do like a weddinng shower for new couples. The soon-to-be bride and groom pick out things from the book they want, then all the party goers can purchase their requests at the party, plus order themselves some nifty kitchen items. It''s probably not what you''re wanting to do now, but possibly something that would be fun closer to their wedding date. It''s great because you all get to sit around and watch them demonstrate some of the items while they cook for you, plus the bride & groom get aprons that everyone can write on giving them kitchen advice or just best wishes.

Just a though :-)
