Best Light Entry?

Hello!
I have a mini conundrum. I am being given a diamond ring for my birthday. Due to its rather large (for me) size, I think its best to save the stone for a more prominent occasion. My ideal setting is the lotus http://www.etsy.com/listing/48780899/lotus-engagement-ring-original-design, but now comparing it to the type of setting it is in now (similar to http://cgi.ebay.com/Diamond-Engagem...nd_Solitaire_with_Accents&hash=item255b8dabf1, I wonder which one will allow for the optimal amount of lighting to hit the stone.

What do you think?

Anyone?

both high-prong settings - doubt you'll see any difference, both will enhance a steep & leaky stone's light return (and conversely neither will make terribly much difference in a well-cut stone ::) ) the lotus has fewer prongs, which makes for an even more open design.. they are both such different designs, though, do you prefer one over the other?

Thank you for your reply Yssie!

I'd actually get the lotus with 6 prongs--should've mentioned that. I prefer the lotus, but in the setting its in right now, it shines incredibly... I would want the maximum potential out of it, if that makes any sense...

I've only seen sally's 4prongs, she must have a new one out - in any case I doubt it matters, truly.

Thank you Yssie! I guess you're right. Aesthetically, I love the lotus. I think the diamond is a transitional cut, so the light performance is different than a modern.

Oh the 6 prong would be custom for me. Photoshop imaging:

And yes! I love that thread -- I drool over Show Me Your Lotuses quite often as well. :lickout: haha

The light you see returned from a diamond enters from the top, not from the sides or back, so in terms of light return it doesn't make a bit of difference. Certain designs cover up part of the edge of the stone and this can both make the stone look smaller and can restrict a bit of the light both entering or leaving the stone but neither of the ones you've chosen have this issue.

Thank you!!
