Hi. Just beginning the search for my new diamond ring, which will replace my 25 year old wedding ring that the center stone recently fell out of, never to be seen again. General question about which pave style everyone thinks has more "sparkle." I've looked at the "U" style (not sure if there's an official name) and the French/fishtail. I like both, just wondering what the more expert opinions are here on PS. Thank you!

I think this will be highly dependent on the size, quality, and cut of the melee.

Am I correct in thinking that highly included (low clarity) single cuts won't hold a candle to less included full cuts, for example?

In terms of sparkle with modern cut melee, there wouldn’t really be a difference. U pave is pretty has the advantage of smooth metal walls on either side. The other ones like “Fishtail” pave have a slight angular look to them the way they’re faceted. Not to self promote but pictures really help; https://www.victorcanera.com/education/jewelry/pave-styles

So the melee quality dictate brilliance. The rest has to do with the shape of the meta.

Good luck!

Thank you both for the information! I am interpreting both your responses to mean I should use high quality melee.

Victor - Your work is beautiful! I’ve looked at so many images of your Emilya oval setting rings in my internet searches. I read the article you provided on pave styles and I understand the differences so much better now. Excellent article!!
