I''ve seen similar posts to mine but am still trying to determine which fits best for me. Have decided it''s time to sell an engagement ring (engagement broken off due to ex''s transgressions), which was purchased new in 1996. Quick specs are as follows: Kremhentz mounting (plat.) which contains a single diamond and two v small ''chips'' (part of mounting). The main stone is a GIA certified, 1.04 round h&a, E, VS1, with a depth of 62.1%, table of 59%, a med. to th. girdle (polished) and a very small culet. Polish and symmetry are rated as good and there is no flouressence. It is a lovely ring, but of course, that is a subjective statement!

Trying to determine if selling these together, separately, etc., makes the most sense. Either way, it''s time for me to rid my safe deposit box of this bad omen (the latter thought per my big sister!). Any ideas and thoughts are appreciated and if anyone would like to see the ring, I''d be happy to take digitals and post.

An additional thought is in regards to joining the DeBeers class action suit -- has / does anyone out there have thoughts regarding the suit? As I understand, it pertains to diamonds sold between the years 1994 - 2006 -- I know that I''d qualify within the class and have all original documentation of my purchase (ring was bought through a reputable merchant in Cleveland, OH).

Thank you in advance for all replies!

Billy, first of all, please dont post photos...You're not allowed to hawk/try to sell items on PS so before you get the boot...just FYI. As for selling, yes, there have been several posts recently and if you do a search for "How to Sell Jewelry", etc., you will find those threads and the contact info for places to re-sell pre-owned goods. Good luck!

Here's one...

Surfgirl,

Thank you for the q reply and advice! Certainly I want to comply and had no intent of trying to sell it here...but I am trying to determine what I should sell it for and the best way to do so. Keep in mind that my knowledge is limited to my research and what I paid for the ring in 1996 -- I''d love to recover the original price paid, but am not so naive to think I would. I was hoping that through (this forum) I''d be able to figure out a fair ask for the ring...thank you again for the advice! Billy

Sorry but there''s no way we can tell you what the value of your ring is. You have to take it to an independent appraiser - one who is not affiliated with any jewelry stores and does not also sell jewelry themselves - and get a current appraisal. Then you can give that to someone like Bill Pearlman and he can determine a fair price that he thinks he can get for the ring. Since you''ve got a GIA cert, that''s a good start but you probably still need a recent appraisal to know where to start talking in terms of prices. Someone like Bill will be better able to tell you what a fair asking price is, and you can certainly call him directly and talk to him about it. With a GIA cert, he might not need an appraisal to determine a selling price. You can usually find his ad icon on the front page and if you click on it, you''ll get his page and can contact him by phone or email.

HI:

I might also try Signed Pieces. Ditto on the updated appraisal.

cheers--Sharon

Call Bill pearlman, he used to carry Krementz mountings, even has some still in his closeout section so he''s familar with the designer and how to appropriately price it.
