I need help choosing a setting for my engagement ring. I promise I will post pictures when it is done

The stone that would go in this setting is a 1.5 carat old european cut.

Please give me your honest opinion!!! I really do need help here, and I would like to know what you think in terms of which one is better for style, comfort, long term investment, just plain prettier, etc.

Setting 1:

Setting 2 -- (the one tilted on top, of course)

oops, I forgot to title the thread "Between these THREE, which one would you choose?" Here''s the third type of setting that I am considering. I still appreciate your honest opinions.

Setting 3:

Can you post more or similar angles of each setting? It''s hard to see how they differ!

They do look awful lot alike. I would say I like the double prongs on the first ring and the profile on the third (just because it is very different). If you do go with a Leon you can customize the ring however you like.

Ooh, #1 for sure! I love those double prongs.

Thanks guys!! It''s funny, they don''t really look that much alike to me. Setting 2 looks like it may not even have diamonds set into it at all. Setting 3 is really different with the flattened edges. And setting 1 is so detailed and ornate.

But maybe it''s because I have been looking at them for so long!!!!!!!!! Roxy to self: take a step back, girl!

By the way Tacori, when you say "profile" which part of the ring do you mean exactly?

Rosy, I got all these images from leon''s website and he doesn''t have a whole bunch of different angle shots. but I did find one more shot of Setting 1 for you:

I vote for #1. Yummy!!!

me too...

one thing to think about (maybe you already have) is if a wedding band is to be worn next to the e-ring. Most of Leon's ring do not lend themselves well with wedding bands. The 3 sided pave bands especially.

I agree with Tacori, they do look very much alike. To me, with the exception of the prongs, number 1 and number 2 could be almost the same ring if looking from the top down. All 3 pictures are at different angles so you can see the nuances, but seriously - all 3 will look very similar from the top. None have halos, and all of them have 3 sided pave bands with metal edges. The major differences appear to be in the basket design, which is most visible from the sides. I think that's why a profile shot was asked for. I do prefer the double claw prongs instead of the blocky prongs in #2. I love the sweeping curves of the basket in #3....but they are similar and you can't go wrong with such beautiful design!

I agree to me they all look very similar but then again all the LM stuff is starting to blur in my mind to a sparkly pave encrusted metal piece with a stone in it...heehhee.

They are all very beautiful, I love how the 3rd has the pave head work but I think that is better on a colored stone so you can really appreciate the diamonds against the color of the stone rather than a colorless stone.

In the end it will be whatever speaks to you more, but I do love those claw prongs!!

I am in love with claw prongs lately. Mrssalvo brings up a very good point. If you want your ering to sit flush with a wedding band make sure you point that out to Leon. So many people get wrapped up in the ering and forget about how a wedding band will sit next to it.

I have to say that I love number three.

I think I might check into buying a seting similar to that.

All three are gorgeous, but I must say whichever ring you choose should definitely have claw prongs
30.gif
.

Also, just be aware that I do question how durable pave rings like this are for everyday wear. Many people have not had any problems, but Allycat comes to mind as a person who does not recommend such a setting for an ering. She has a thread or two about her observations about her Leon creation.

Loooove all three, but my ultimate vote would be for #1 roxy! All three are very beautiful though:) Make sure to post what you decide!

wow! I like No 1.

Setting 3:

I meant the side view (of course that is all you can see

) I love the head (how it is curved instead of straight. Very unusual) I also agree I would avoid the 3 sided pave (maybe engraving instead). Having lost a melee myself it just isn''t worth the risk IMHO.

All three look beautiful but my vote is for #1.

It''s entirely up to you...go with what you love the best!

~~My vote is for #1... love the pave''!!!

#1 is my vote (though 1 and 2 look similiar except for the prongs). All 3 are pretty, have fun choosing!

Setting 1:
I vote for #1...all three are beautiful but the first one grabs me the most...when I get a larger cushion--someday--I would love #1 for myself!!!

Iprefer the third because it''s a plain smooth band where its in your palm. MUCH more practical.

I love #1!

I think #3 looks a little strange...and not quite as expensive-looking. Just my 2 cents.
21.gif

Setting #3 was made for a particularly deep cut sapphire - the design would probably look very different if the stone is not very, very deep. If this makes it in the end you would need to ask what it may end up like on your stone.

Something similar could be said about the others - ''guess the relatively straight forward basket shape would fit any size of stone, but everyting else would change relative to the pictures. Those diamonds are HUGE. It should help to have closer to 1.5 cts than 15 to look at for refference.

There was a more reasonably sized ring made as all over paved ''Cartier'' style basket around here... Ginger''s!

Am I seeng things or is this a good match?

IMO, a smaller diamond allows more twists and turns on the setting. Does anyone like THIS ?

Mara, funny that you say it... Second that. Seeing all that perfectly layered diamond dust, I can''t keep away the question ''why on Earth don''t they do less bread&butter styles''. Most rings are good old classics... but, I guess this is not the usual designer line that imposes their quirks on buyers. If everything is custom work, this may explain the conservative taste. There can''t be too much of that ''frost'' in the general jewelry population - it is funny to see so much in one place

Oh wow
23.gif
, they''re all drop dead gorgeous. How about one of each? Sorry, I''m no help at all
7.gif

I vote for #1 just because I love the Leon claws. But really all of his work is beautiful, so you can''t really go wrong!

I really like #3 but I would add the double prongs to it. Whichever way you go, it''ll be gorgeous!

Thanks again, guys,

Valeria, I think you are right about the size of my diamond. The pictures that you posted are gorgeous.

I love the pave, and I agree with the majority of people here -- Number 1 it is!!!!!!!!!!!

My only issue now is whether or not I should go for three-sided pave, since it will be hard to sit flush against a wedding band. I love the way it looks, but I do want practicality. Does anyone have examples of a pave band that is NOT three-sided, but has engraving, that looks beautiful???? It would be MUCH APPRECIATED if you do, I am lost without you gals.

Also, no matter what, I am going to have a flat section on the band where the ring faces my palm. I think it will be much more practical, easier to resize (for my grandkids if they have bigger than a size 4!), and more comfortable.

Again, thanks so much for giving me your honest opinions.
