Good afternoon. I'm buying a solitaire engagement ring in yellow gold for my fiancee. I started with 7 retailers and narrowed it down to the one I wanted. I then discovered the HCA tool and ran 92 diamonds through it to whittle it down to these two. Both are called Eye clean, with some fairly notable inclusions. I'd love your opinions weighing their appearance (fire is most important to me). I'll put their HCA scores here too.

Of those two, absolutely the J VS2

Thanks! Is that due to the inclusions or the cut parameters? I shouldn't be tempted by a larger stone?

I agree with the others about the J VS2...the table size of the J SI1 is getting up there at 59%, so the smaller 57% table of the VS2 is much more appealing.

Have you checked on-hand inventory at Whiteflash?

There's a beautiful 0.513 I SI1 ACA (their best classification for cut precision) in the price ballpark:

It's mostly the inclusions, and the 57% table might lend itself to more fire than the 59% table.

If you're open to another vendor, I'd recommend this one. It's cheaper than either of the Ritani stones and almost as large as the 0.6.

I beg to differ, rather strongly, on a diamond these sizes there is rather limited fire and its more about brilliance. My guidelines are 60% is better than 57% for fifty's and 60's.
