Hi folks. After a lot of back and forth, finally decided on the style: BGD's 6-prong Tiffany knife-edge solitaire.

Link: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5336

I just spoke to BGD and put two stones on hold. One is a 0.73 H SI1, the other is a 0.82 G SI1.

My budget for a stone is up to ~$3000. The price difference between these two is substantial -- about $900 -- so I'm hoping Pricescopers can help me narrow it down. Both diamonds are presently on hold.

I'm wondering if there will be much difference when looking at the stone straight-on.

In any case, which would you choose? Or, should I consider another from BGD's site?

Thank you!!!!

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

I'm not even sure whether I can answer this as a vendor, but it is bugging me that 21 people have viewed your post and nobody has answered yet - so I'm going to step out on a limb and try to answer your question gingerly and try not to violate any of the PS rules related to vendors...

By the numbers, both diamonds are essentially comparable and they are both the same clarity and only one color grade apart... the primary inclusions are essentially different shapes of small diamond crystals that were trapped within the larger diamond as it formed... and the two diamonds are very close to each other in terms of carat weight. Assuming that both diamonds are "eye clean" they should look very similar to each other. The slight difference in carat weight would probably be apparent to you if you were to set both diamonds on a sorting tray where they were separated by about half an inch; however the difference in size would likely not be apparent to you if you were looking at the two diamonds from across the dinner table. This is about as much as I think I can say as a vendor, I hope it helps.

If you can swing it, go for the larger stone. I think it will look better in that setting the larger it is. Plus, diamonds are increasing in price and you may as well bite the bullet and get as much as you can now!

That is one of my favorite settings!

Thanks for the responses! Please keep 'em coming. :)

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to shell out the extra money. I can afford it, so it's not an issue of that, more of whether or not you'll really be able to see a difference when they're set.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

Hey, I'm all about the bigger the better...but in this case the price difference seems a little too extreme to make
it worth going for the bigger one even though its a G. (this is MY opinion)

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

I also would go for the bigger diamond. I too had to make a decision when I was choosing between a 0.77 and 0.85 of similar qualities and the price difference was similar to yours. So I know where you are coming from. I ended up getting the 0.85 and couldn't be happier. Side by side, i can definitely notice the difference in size although it was only 0.08 apart.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

Would go for the bigger G color stone! No hesitation!

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

No hesitation, huh? :)

OK, i'm about half an hour away from ordering and still haven't totally made up my mind. Any other opinions are totally welcomed!

Thanks everyone.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

I too would go for the bigger stone if you can - I think that size difference will be both obvious when the stones are proximal and memorable even after you've chosen one and no longer have them side by side for comparison.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

OK, I'm in!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to shoot for the bigger stone.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

Yay!!! :appl: While painful at the moment, I think you'll be glad you did!

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

SO!

Looks like I can't make a wire transfer until tomorrow (on the west coast, in Canada, and my bank is closed).

Last question: I didn't hear anything from PS'ers regarding the specs on the .818. Looking at the lab report, H&A image, etc., is there anything I should be concerned about? Or anything I should ask BGD about?

Thanks!

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

did you ask if it is eye-clean to your standards?

other than eyeclean to your requirements as slg said - as far as I can tell there is quite literally nothing left to evaluate, everything looks picture perfect to me!

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

Thanks all. They tell me it's eye clean and beautiful, so I'm sold. I'll let you know when pics are available.

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

:appl: Right choice!!! Brian just told me that prices are going up. He said I should be very happy I got what I got when I got it. I put a stone on hold the day before he went to Antwerp. So I don't think you will regret getting the biggest you can afford at this point. :)

Re: BGD Tiffany: Help me choose between diamonds? (buying to

I'm told the ring will ship at the end of this week, and 'glamour shots' will arrive any day.

Getting anxious to see it now! I'll post when I know more.

I love that setting and can't wait to see the pictures!
