There’s been a lot of media hype about HBO’s Succession series here in Australia, I read a couple of articles but decided to wait awhile (other priorities) but when my 21 year old daughter said “Mum you should watch it” I did.

Now I’m quietly obsessed by the series, the cast, script and the pace is good and it’s horribly cleaver.

Is anyone else watching it or have watched it?
I would love to hear your thoughts!

We call it Sleepytime T(V) for my wife. She always wants to watch and then ten minutes in she is out like a light. It's all the repartee that goes nowhere (ever) and the overused...halting..speech...patterns -- like vintage William Shatner. It is fun -- and all the best lines are the throwaway ones where you're like wait what?

Was just gonna say that Jeremy Strong (Kendall) is so fantastically true-to-life -- playing all those wannabe business bros -- that I think he deserves an Emmy. So I looked it up to not look like an idiot here and see that he already won in 2020. So I guess it's not a niche opinion.

At the very outset, we thought it was over-broad and terrible but then read about it and learned that it was satire. (So obvious now -- but we just thought it was a story.) So for us, it has been straight-up stiob as the Russians would call it. Such a great term that I just stumbled across in NYT or similar but I can't recall where. Satire so trenchant that government officials actually think it is earnest.

The first 3 seasons were binge-worthy for my dh and I. He binge watched first and I started watching when he told me I’d like it. I love the character development and the quick witty retorts and dialogue….but who really talks like that?

When we got to season 4, we started watching it live on Sunday nights, and basically after episode 3 it was all downhill from there. It has become Sleepy-time or $€xy-time in our house, ‘cos we lose interest after the first few minutes….now the word “succession and chill”has actually become a phrase in our house.

@LilAlex I”m similar to your wife there is certain TV that puts me to sleep at night, for me it’s UK/Australian cooking shows I find them really relaxing after a busy day. Succession is definitely not relaxing TV.

There’s so much I like about the series but I loathe all the swearing it’s horrid! Jeremy Strong aka Kendal is brilliant, his constant emotional turmoil is heart wrenching & he is a great actor. They all are - it’s a great cast.

@jaysonsmom I’m watching it by myself, my DH is watching a German crime series. We usually watch series’s together, it’s coming into winter here so we’re home at night which is the perfect time to binge.

I’m up to series 4 and interested to see what happens with Shiv, Kendal, Roman & the takeover.

The series is apparently based on the Murdoch family, Rupert is not a good man. The fish rots from the head down!

My DH and I enjoyed watching it together. We watched the entire series I believe. it's very entertaining.

We are also enjoying the series. The characters have no redeeming qualities imo but it’s so entertaining to watch the train wreck! Great acting!

Season 1 & 2 were epic. In some instances I had never laughed so hard. 3 was slow for me for the first few eps then got better. I have not yet ventured into 4 but certainly will. Tom and Cousin Greg are my faves.

Thanks for your thoughts @missy & @Slickk.

Agree @Mreader I like Greg & Tom too, I love Greg’s dialogue.

I just realised I have misspelt ‘bingeing’ in the title, I really need to wear my glasses!

For the longest time I thought I’d already watched it because my HBO subscription kept showing “watch again.” Then I realized that my ex used to share my Prime account when the first season came out and he had watched every episode.

So I started watching a few days ago and I’m hooked. Just started S2 tonight. It’s hilarious and I can’t believe how dumb the kids are, although I guess that’s to be expected. It is entertaining in an “are you kidding me?!” facepalm kind of way.

We binged the first couple of seasons when it showed up on Netflix or Hulu (can't remember now) because we don't have an HBO subscription. We joked with each other when discussing which character we like best, that it was more like which character we loathed the least!

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest when it shows up on a subscription we have, hopefully this summer when all our other favorite shows are in re-run season.
