I''ve been stressing over colors and attire for a while so I thought I''d get y''alls input...

I think I''ve decided to just have the men in the wedding party wear navy suits and matching ties. The dress I really want for my bridesmaids only comes in black, brown, navy, white, lavender and light light pink. Would the black or brown dresses look ok next to the blue suits? I think the navy would look funny because they wouldn''t match the guys'' blue suits perfectly but what do ya''ll think? What color flowers and ties would you put with any of these combinations? I really liked the idea of having JCrew style ties for the men with little bulldogs or something on them... but what color? Thanks!

I''d try the navy dresses and the navy suits. I bet they''d be close enough, but even if they aren''t, I love slightly different shades of one color in a wedding party.

Also, for flowers, I love the pop of light or hot pink next to navy. Classic white flowers would also be beautiful.

Hmm, I''m not sure which colors would work best together. Have you thought about piecing together some color swatches to get a feel for what combo''s work well together. My instinct says that blue and black would look nice together but I''d probably want to tie those colors in elsewhere too.
I don''t think that if you used navy for both, if the navy in the dresses and suits are a bit off that it would look bad. I''m pretty matchy myself but if you have a very different flower color, like hot pink that Ebree suggested, I think the blue and blue would be fine.

I also think that blue and brown would look good together, depending on the shade of brown.

Do you have pics of the dress and the various shades you''re thinking of?

I hope that I didn''t actually add to the confusion!

I agree that non perfectly matching navy will look just fine. At least all the guys and all the girls will look the same, and the off shades will take away from being super "matchy matchy". So it''ll be a nice contrast.

Definitly go with brighter/lighter flowers like Ebree suggested. Bright pinks and oranges (like mango calla lillies - i heart those). Or pale pinks, whites and creams (this would be my preference but it depends on the mood of your wedding). The pop will be soooo nice! And then for the guys I would do the same with the ties, pick a lighter color tie that matches whatever flowers you choose. And they''ll also have the boutineer (sp?) on the lapel I''m assuming?

good luck!

navy/navy

Whether or not the two navy shades match will end up being a moot point, since they''ll be different fabrics and photograph differently anyway.

Personally, I couldn''t bring myself to mix navy and black. I still have those color mixing no-nos ingrained in me (black/brown, black/navy, pink/orange) from my high school days. Those rules change with time though: my mom tells me that "in her day" mixing blue and green was also a no-no!

If you can, find a way to see the two colors together... Envisioning is one thing--and can''t compare to actually seeing it!

I remember the 80''s - I think we broke all the colour matching rules!!

Blue, black and brown are all neutrals and can be mixed beautifully. I would not go navy/navy, it''s just a bit too matchy-match for my tastes (and I''m a matcher!).

I've also seen lots of pictures of 80's weddings breaking those rules

ETA: I don't know, maybe it's just because I live in one of the fashion centres of the world, but I've always steered away from clashing colors--mostly subconsciously.

I think of picking colors for my wedding in the same context as putting together a really show-stopping outfit. You can plan out what you're going to wear, but it may not look or feel right when you see the whole thing on yourself. Then you tweak it until you really feel *hot*

Choosing your attendants' outfits should work the same way: You can plan it out, but once you see the whole package in person, it will undoubtedly look different than it did in your mind. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way--you never know until you "try it on"!

I vote for navy/navy with colorful accents. Navy and black are so close in hue that it would really bug me, like finding out you had on one navy sock and one blue or something. If the shade of brown for the BM''s dresses was light enough, I could see those with navy suits as well.

I also agree navy/navy. I do not like black with navy.
