I took my rings to a local jewerly store today to have them looked at. They confirmed that all the saphires and diamonds were real and natural. However my masquise cut ring they have me a little confused on. She stated that it was natural black oynx. But the gem is dark blue to green depending on the angle and lighting. Natural lighting out side it looks the same as my saphire and even reacts the same under a uv light as them which is a dark purple. Do you all think she could have made mistake. Unfortunately there is no one close to where I live that i can take them to. :wall:

Onyx is the mineral Chalcedony and it isn’t always black in colour. And Its often also dyed.
Unless your jeweller is also a gemologist they may be mistaken in their identity.

Its the same ring in my profile picture and heres a couple more of it.

Thanks for the reply. I found some on eBay that were similar in style. They are natural black onyx even though they lack the two colors. But this could be the lighting. Still not sure about the same reaction under the uv light though. But thanks.

It sure looks like a sapphire to me! Sometimes the color saturation makes them appear dark. The back lighting shows the blue color.
I don't see how it could be onyx.
Just because someone is behind the counter in a jewelry store doesn't mean they know everything.
Its very beautiful and large! I love it!
1980's style, for sure.

Thank you. I thought so too. But im really don't wear much jewerly and plan on passing these down to my daughter. I have never seen a oynx look like that.
