Hello!
I''m not sure that anyone here even remembers me.... I''ve lurked a bit, and seen a few names that I still recognize on the boards in general, but not really with the LIW.
Well, as I inched near the top of the list about a year and a half ago, I knew I was going to be on for a while longer, just because of, well, life! My bf and I began dating in college, when we graduated, we spent a year doing long distance... a very hard year. He moved to Chicago, and it was a very rough transition. We definitely went through a lot more than we expected! But we perservered and this past November he proposed!
Over Thanksgiving we traveled to Rome. While things were good, I thought with paying for his tuition, other expenses, etc that I was still going to be waiting. I really did not have any expectations for our trip. Stupid me, because a LONG time ago I told him my dream proposal would be in Rome, my favorite city. He had wanted to propose at a romantic restaurant, I (not knowing he wanted to propose) resisted because I didn''t want to pack a dressy outfit on our trip and wanted to take it easy (plus, with the Euro, who wants to spend that much on dinner!). Then he wanted to go to Tivoli and propose there apparently, which I promptly told him, the whole point is to see the gardens and fountains, which aren''t going to be that nice in November! So, instead, he ended up popping the question in our hotel the first night in the city! I said yes, of course!
We had looked together casually, but I thought he would have told me when he wanted to seriously go look at stones. Unbeknownst to me, he found a wonderful local jeweler (Cy Frederics, for anyone in the Chicago area, it is in Glenview) and picked out a 1.05 cushion in an antique-looking setting with an additional .4 (I think) in diamonds. The cushion is GIA F, VS2, with Very Good for Symmetry and Cut. I honestly don''t even know where our copy of the report is to give more details... all I know is it sparkles like mad and I love it - which is more important than anything!
I meant to post earlier... I''ve been MIA in terms of posting on these boards for like a year and a half, just because I felt weird being on the LIW a little longer than anticipated. I never lost my love for looking at everyone else''s baubles and following the engagements to weddings and looking a those pictures.
I just wanted to share my good news, and my ring!
Good luck to everyone else, and those who may be waiting longer than they thought they would be... it all works out in the end!
