Hi there. Hoping for advice. Been having some slighter more intense hot flashes and cold flashes, thought it was stress and the flu shot on Thursday. Today went to work and blood in urine, so came home. Doctors phone appt has set me up with a lab req. and am having a horrible time getting an opening at a lab. Tomorrow at 6am I camp on the doorstep of one and am hoping to get a time. Anyway, does this sound like a UTI? I've had several but this has more blood than usual, altho just as sudden as the appearance of the blood is some slight frothiness and strong odor. Any and all advice would be welcome. I'm tired and fed up, it's been a nasty time lately personally and at work.

I'm not a medical professional, but seems like you should be seen ASAP as bleeding can be serious. Hope you can get a time tomorrow, are there labs you can walk into? Perhaps if you see the doctor in person or go to urgent care, they may have access to a lab in their office? Hope you're OK and can get the test ASAP.

Are you going to the toilet frequently? Does it hurt/sting when you urinate? Blood in urine could be a few different things - could be something wrong with your kidneys?

Well I am now because I'm drinking a lot of water and natural cranberry juice. Urinating burns a little but not nearly as much as firmer uti's? I've not been drinking enough lately and am menopausal.

No bleeding as in discharge, all in the urine. Not a whole whole lot, but more than the small streaks I'm used to with a UTI?

I think you would definitely need a urine test to confirm either UTI or any underlying issues. I know it's a pain but the only way to know for sure is to get the test done.

So frustrating. Covid has messed up so much. I'm really covid fatigued right now.
Still peeing blood, although not much bladder pain though which I find odd. Trying to take my temperature but my thermostat battery door stuck...

I am so sorry you are going through this. COVID is definitely making accessing healthcare a lot harder. But it does sound concerning enough. My MIL had blood in her urine for a long time and it was caused by some polyps on the bladder. I think there could be a few different things happening but only one way to know for sure.

I also hope that whatever it is, that it's not serious and that you have wonderful health otherwise!

Could also be a kidney stone. Please take care of yourself.

^this is what I was thinking. If your hot flashes and cold flashes are actually a fever, you could have some kind of infection. Get to a doctor asap for an evaluation. hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like a urinary tract infection. I would also recommend asking your primary to refer you to a urologist if you have had bleeding intermittently, after treating the infection. You may need a cystoscopy(small camera used to look at your bladder and the tubes connecting to your kidney-ureters

Oh no :( I am so sorry. I hope whatever it is gets diagnosed and you are able to get a treatment soon. Urinary stuff is rough :(

Thanks everyone!!! My doc is retiring and his replacement is only doing phone calls right now, so a simple test in their office has turned into a nightmare of going to a lab (2 week online appt wait) or showing up at 6am and hoping for a walk in. They'll rule out something more serious and then doc calls in prescription. Wednesday is a stat holiday, so this is a bit of a race to get the damn antibiotics. No labs open on Wednesday.
Really hoping more serious stuff gets ruled out!

Pyridium is an over the counter drug (Phenazopyridine) that controls UTI symptoms. You might try it if your symptoms worsen. It does not treat infection though. Only relieves symptoms. Good luck.

What about urgent care or ER?

Yes! I'll try that if anything worsens. Pee is coming clear now, but I've had 2 litres?
Temperature is fine. Minimal discomfort

If worse comes to worse, you may try telehealth (online doctor) for help. I have had great luck them. Open 24/7 too.

I've talked to a doctor today, thankfully but need to have my urine tested so they can rule out something more serious, then the doc can prescribe antibiotics. The lab part is holding me up. If I can't get in the lab, I'll head to the ER tomorrow night and get the test and prescription there. Really hoping to avoid that! I'll remember telehealth though as clinics have such limited hours now. I was told today you have to be vetted by a doc by phone now before any clinic visit. No clinic answered my calls by 1:30 today, they stop answering the phones when they've reached capacity. Routine care is becoming so so difficult.

Sending you many good wishes and bucketloads of healing dust @Begonia and I hope whatever it is you have is not serious and heals quickly. (((Hugs))).

Thinking of you, however, blood in urine is never a good sign, and yes to seeking medical advice and help ASAP!

DK :))

Oddly enough, my mom is going through the same thing. She has a cytoscopy or whatever scheduled for December. Wishing you a speedy recovery from whatever! Hopefully it’s nothing!

Thank you all! Trying to get some sleep and heading in to a lab soon. Hope I don't have to pee while waiting outside :oops2:
Urine coming clear again, with no fluids for a while.

It does sound like a urine infection & as your symptoms are improving it hopefully rules out anything serious. Drink plenty of fluids to flush any bugs out of your system

Best wishes @Begonia
May what ever it is be past the worst of it and the lab witl rule out all bad things
Im so sorry stuoid covid is making it that much worse for 'regular' illness right now

I'm hoping so too. Can't sleep and wondering if I should just head in to the ER...it's 345 here, and I might actually get in.

Very little burning and blood has stopped. Weird.

Please be a kidney stone and you have passed it already

Do you speak French, begonia?

(Strange question @Begonia, but bear with me, I'm explaining below)

It's 1p.m. here and telemedicine consultations with real doctors in France are dirt cheap (25€!!!!!!) . It's covered 100% if insured hwre in Europe, but 25€ if no insurance.

I use the App "Qare". It's super helpful to talk to a doctor and I've had all sorts of specialists on FaceTime within under an hour.

This could at least help to evaluate who to see next and in which timeframe.

You’ll have to wait for your tests of course but I have have one UTI that was like this, strong smell, blood in urine.
