How can I tell what diamonds have not been produced by slave labor or through the unethical treatment of their employees. I understand DeBeers pretty much has a monopoly and their track record is pretty awful.

hey zed! welcome to ps!!
try running a search of threads for conflict diamonds, there have been many posts on the subject.....maybe you can find some answers there.

There aren't too many gems mined in developed countries... at least there you can track down corporate ethics, for what that's worth,

I would have never guessed what's in this thread from it's tytle! "Bloodstone" is this (below) - a kind of deep green jasper with red specs that give the name.

oh, ana, i also thought it was about the jasper ''bloodstone'' an alternate to aquamarine for those of us born in march. it is my understanding that good bloodstone is hard to come by.

well... what isn''t. There''s not much difference in price though and the material is sold by the pound. Getting it engraved as above is yet another thing

the engraving didn''t show up too well on my monitor. the person i buy my ''rock'' rings from knows i''m in the market for a good bloodstone ring but says he hasn''t found anything that meets his criteria...and he knows i''ll pay what it takes to get it.

i do, however, have an interesting pair of old earrings that i''m going to have to post in the ''color stone'' forum one of these days as they do have some nice older bloodstone AND i believe i was told oregon sunstone. there is a third cabochon but i don''t remember what it is....i need to find those earrings and have another look.
