Our older granddaughter used to ask to go out for lunch with us whenever there was a PA day at school. She was scared of staying home alone. We always picked her up, took her wherever we were going and encouraged her to try different dishes from the menu. Nothing was out of bounds.
She's now 16, has her driver's license (as of last week) and can use her mom's car if it's available. She told us that she'd come up and make dinner for us Tuesday (today). Promptly at 5 pm she arrived with groceries. She wanted no help. DH and I set up the patio table and umbrella and set the table for 3.
First we had garlic bread and then whole wheat penne pasta with pesto - delicious! Then, for dessert she had made banana loaf at home last night and she buttered three slices and put them in the microwave briefly and served them with decaf.
Not only was the food delicious, the 'company' was entertaining too.
After waiting half an hour, she went swimming in our backyard inground pool for a while, cleaned up the kitchen and then left for home.
She's amazing in every sense of the word! I taught secondary English and French for 19 years, but students like her were few and far between. So maybe I'm a little biased, but she never ceases to impress me.
