Our older granddaughter used to ask to go out for lunch with us whenever there was a PA day at school. She was scared of staying home alone. We always picked her up, took her wherever we were going and encouraged her to try different dishes from the menu. Nothing was out of bounds.

She's now 16, has her driver's license (as of last week) and can use her mom's car if it's available. She told us that she'd come up and make dinner for us Tuesday (today). Promptly at 5 pm she arrived with groceries. She wanted no help. DH and I set up the patio table and umbrella and set the table for 3.

First we had garlic bread and then whole wheat penne pasta with pesto - delicious! Then, for dessert she had made banana loaf at home last night and she buttered three slices and put them in the microwave briefly and served them with decaf.

Not only was the food delicious, the 'company' was entertaining too.

After waiting half an hour, she went swimming in our backyard inground pool for a while, cleaned up the kitchen and then left for home.

She's amazing in every sense of the word! I taught secondary English and French for 19 years, but students like her were few and far between. So maybe I'm a little biased, but she never ceases to impress me.

She's sounds wonderful! I'm not at all surprised to learn that you have such a wonderful granddaughter, Isaku.
I hope you enjoy many more well-deserved meals with her in the future!

Warm, buttered banana bread and decaf? What a perfect way to end the meal.

Very impressive :appl: what a wonderful young lady. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and I'm sure you, your family, and her mom all had great role models :praise:

Isaku, sounds like you have a wonderful grand daughter. Take pride that you have helped raise such a wonder young lady. And make sure you compliment her parents too :)

Aw when I opened this thread I was thinking it was going to be thread about "kids these days" and how ungrateful they are. Unfortunately, it is a reality that kids like your granddaughter are rare. This little story just put the biggest smile on my face! Thanks for sharing it really brightened my day!

Awesome!! :appl:

How lovely! Our 17 year old DD is very close to her grandparents and loves to spend time with them. I could see her doing something like that for my parents except she doesn't have her license and can't cook. ;)) How did your granddaughter learn to cook?

Heartwarming! I hope my parents will be able to speak so proudly about my daughter as she grows up. Thank you for sharing!

What a thoughtful and sweet young woman your granddaughter is Isaku! Such a great story - thank you for sharing it with us!
