Like so many others I am facinated by Tanzanite. I have a couple of jewelry pieces and I am looking to buy some loose stones. I have read a lot about the different colors, etc. But this is the first time I have seen a blue/green stone. (not an emerald green, but almost a teal) What are the opinions on this color?

Knowing absolutely nothing about tanz (except for knowing that the tiny ones I have in a couple pendants are very low quality..

) I GASPED when I saw that stone. Literally. LOVE the combination of colors together, I think it''s beautiful!

It''s pretty. Do you have any more pics? Where is it from?

I actually bought this stone off ebay on a whim. And now I am wondering if I did the right thing! It is 1.72 cts and will be shipped with gem certification.

who did the gem certification?

hmmmm - now I feel like an idiot

The person I bought it from offered gem certification for a small fee. I checked their feedback ratings and customer comments and everyone seemed really happy with their stones.

Hope you didn''t pay too much for this stone. Ebay, is risky, I don''t trust any pictures that seller''s put up... The color of the image can be totally different than what you actually recieve. Feedback, I don''t put a lot into that either. Can ya tell I don''t buy from Ebay??

Please let us know what you think of it once you get it, and post pics. So we can see before and after. That will be very helpful. Will hope it''s what was pictured.

I have been buying/selling off ebay for years - I have only been burned once (crossed fingers!) And then I was able to file a dispute through Paypal and I got my $$ back.

As for this stone - the seller stated this in the auction:

Our return policy includes 7 days money back guarantee (from the date of receipt of item) if the item is NOT found as described. You shall be refunded in full minus shipping charge.

Scrapgem, I hope you like the stone. I''m not sure the colors looks like tanzanite to me. The best colored tanzanite can show flashes of red. Let us know what you think when you get it.

Thank you! I think it is pretty too

Natural tanzanite has trichroism, appearing blue, violet, and green depending on the orientation of the crystal when cutting. Unheated tanzanite often has a dominant green coloration that is eliminated or subdued by heating. Most finished stones on the market show very little green as it not why most people spend money. Probably the shape of the rough was such that the cutter had no other recourse but to cut a trillion with a greenish angle. If you like the color, it was probably less expensive than if it was heated to just blue/violet.
There are many nice stones that are inexpensive if a person dares to be a little off the norm

So - do you think it is something other than Tanzanite? I like the stone - I think it would be pretty in a ring or pendant. But I would like to know what I am buying :) Is there anyway someone can look at it and give me an idea? Who should I take it to?

Hi,

No, I see nothing in the photo or description that would make me think otherwise. Of course, having it in hand is always the key. I think the main deciding point for you since you like the photo is that the gem IS like the photo. You got it for an excellent price for tanzanite. Here is a similar size and shape, but the normal expected color. The price is much more than yours. So if you like your purchase, you are doubly lucky

Also, if you aren''t the scientific lab equipment type ( refractometer, etc. ) These filters are great for quick check. Not as accurate as fancy lab equipment, but helps tremendously, espeially if you have some "for sure" gems as comparison. Nice when you go to an auction or buying from strangers. The one for tanzanite is a combo type, comes with instructions.

I think I will get one of those filters :) I want to buy a few Tanzanite for jewelry - but I want to know I got what I pay for :) I am glad you think I got a good price - I wasn''t going to go any higher. I will have to post a picture of it when it arrives.

do you have an appraiser lined up for when the stone arrives so you can take advantage of the 7 day return policy? someone who really does appraisals, not the guy from the jewelry store who eyeballs a stone?

if you didn''t pay much and you like it really doesn''t matter. sometimes returning an ebay stone costs more than the stone did in the first place......

but if you like the stone, didn''t pay much for it, it looks like the one in the picture you posted, does it really matter if its tanzanite or not? beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

Me too! I love this but I can''t speak to the quality of it. I LOVE tanzanite and I''d love to own a stone or two someday.

Wow that stone is amazing!!!
