I’m looking for guidance on my last (for quite a long time) big jewelry purchase.
I’ve narrowed it down to a sapphire right hand ring.
I’ve even further narrowed it down to one blue sapphire ring and one yellow sapphire ring.
I’m hoping to wear it frequently. I already have a big cocktail RHR so I’m thinking this purchase should be more of a no nonsense setting. But that being said, I’m a “certain age” so small and dainty just don’t work for me.
The first ring is a 3.15 Thailand GIA certified emerald-cut blue sapphire set in 18k. I have spent a lot of time with this stone and it is very clean and a darker blue. Definitely not cornflower blue or that famous Madagascar royal blue although it has flashes of that. I actually prefer a darker blue sapphire. It lights up in the sun and has vivid flashes of blue in indoor lighting. Low profile no nonsense setting.
The second ring is a 4.22 carat Ceylon GIA certified oval yellow sapphire. It’s set in a platinum diamond halo with a simply gorgeous undergallery. The color is a nice vivid deep yellow with just a hint of orange but not enough to make you think orange. Still solidly vibrant yellow.
I was pretty sure I was going with the emerald-cut because I just kept coming back to it. Everytime I was in the store, I would gravitate towards it. I always talked myself out of it by telling myself (1) it’s not Sri Lanka, (2) it’s a darker blue (3) the setting is nothing to write home about, (4) it’s expensive. But I was just so attracted to that solid emerald-cut and mysterious blue.
Then my jeweler showed me the yellow Ceylon ring and I fell for the elegant sparkly-ness. Now this IS a setting to write home about! Everything about this ring is amazing. Everything about this called my name. Sparkly. Drop dead gorgeous platinum setting. Big vibrant stone.
So then why am I still thinking about the emerald-cut? So then why am I writing this thread at all?
I feel like I will regret leaving the gorgeous yellow sapphire on the table.
I’m so conflicted.
Oh and I should probably mention price because it DOES matter! The blue sapphire is considerably more money!!
Thanks all!
