So I was visiting my parents this past weekend and my mom brought out a blue topaz (we think) ring that I hadn''t seen in ages. Apparently I had "claimed" it when I was 6, by putting a piece of tape with my name on it on the box! (If that''s not calling dibs, I don''t know what is!

) The stone is a beautiful sparkly rich blue with the tiniest twinges of green in the sunlight. I love it!

The pictures don''t even come close to doing it justice. However, I''m not crazy about the setting. Mostly because I don''t wear yellow gold.

Since I''m getting married in ten days (eek!

) I would like to wear it as my something blue... so I think these are my options:
1) Have it reset into a simple white gold solitaire setting until I figure out what I want to do with it... but I''m worried that that''s a waste of $.
2) Rhodium plate the current setting to make it white for the wedding... FI photoshopped what that might look like (below), but I''m worried that it might look too stark against my skin tone and distract too much from the pretty stone, or
3) Or I could just leave it as is (but then I''d have clashing hands, which I don''t ever do)

Opinions?

I already have a necklace for the wedding, so I don''t want to put it into a pendant.... any other ideas? I need to decide ASAP because we''re leaving for the wedding in one week... and with the holiday, I don''t think I''ve got a lot of time to work with.

Thanks guys!

First off, that is a beautiful ring... (good job staking your claim

). I honestly think that for right now you should leave it the way it is. I know you said you never have "clashing" metals, but if you wear it on your right hand, I don''t think it would be a problem. Plus, trying to get it reset with the long weekend coming up AND your wedding just sounds like added stress that you shouldn''t put upon yourself if you don''t have to. Who knows, the original setting may grow on you! Anyway, it''s a beautiful ring and I vote for you wearing it just the way it is. Good luck with last minute wedding planning! (I dread to think how I will be a week before our wedding... crazy probably, haha.)

Lizzie, the color is gorgeous on that stone! If time/cost is a factor now, I would look at plating, but just make sure it won''t damage the stone. Later, I would put in a halo setting with diamonds around it, or set it as a solitaire with a diamond side stone on each side. It is lovely! It could be your something borrowed too, but I do not think you are giving it back!!!

The most I would do at this point is rhodium plate it if you really don''t want to wear wg and yg on different hands. I wouldn''t invest in a temp setting just for the wedding. Rhodium would solve the clashing issue and be minimal money spent for the time being.

Wow, love the stone. I would definitely rhodium plate it for now. It won''t hurt the stone at all and isn''t costly to do. Then once yourre back from the honeymoon you can take your time finding a nice setting for it. I wouldn''t waste the money on a temp setting now. I can''t wait to see the setting you come up with. Great looking Topaz!!!

I would rhodium plate it. Or maybe tie it to your bouquet instead of wearing it?

Thanks for the advice ladies! I bit the bullet and had the stone put into a six-prong WG setting at a local B&M this afternoon. I decided that I didn''t want to rhodium plate the YG setting because it would be too temporary of a solution. It''ll probably be a while before I change it to something else (a la Matatora''s halo), and this way I can wear the ring everyday, as I intend to! I''m very happy with it!

WOW that is gorgeous! It looks like a blue topaz to me but I am not an expert.

Wow, love the new setting. I think this setting really shows off the beautiful color of the stone more. The stone got lost a bit in the other setting. Enjoy your something blue!!!

VERY PRETTY!!!

If I didn''t say it before, I''ll say it now - that is a GORGEOUS blue topaz pear. Serious yum yum.

love it lizzie, it really pops against the white metal now, what a great idea for something blue!

Lizzie I LOVE the new setting, it's perfect. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come. What a neat way to have your something blue. You made an excellent choice!!!

I''m going to have to take some outdoor sunlight pics of it to try to catch the color!

I think I forgot to mention that Blue Topaz is my birthstone, which is why I claimed the original ring as a kid. I feel like the stone has been waiting 20 years to be worn and that it''s happy to be on display in its new setting!

Wow, the color of the stone is just gorgeous and it looks fantastic in the new setting!

Lizzie, that looks really beautiful in its new setting. It is a substantial sized stone, too.

Thanks so much ladies! I''m glad I was able to capture the color and sparkle a little bit better in those sunlight shots.
