How does this happen?!

So I picked out the cutest Melissa Sweet BM dresses(http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=50&sfid=50631&f=) and thought I was being SO proactive by having my BMs order and pay for them December of last year (b/c they take 25 weeks to receive them) for my wedding August 29th of this year. Everything was great, the dressed came in in June all ready to go. B/c 2 of my BMs live on the East Coast (I live in Los Angeles), I decided to just ship the packages myself via Fed-Ex, b/c my bridal salon (Mon Amie - GREAT place, WONDERFUL customer service) charged $35.00 a piece to ship them and I was trying to save a buck (STUPID ME).

Anyway, I Fed-Exed the dresses, one to NJ the other to NY, and specifically told the people at Fed-Ex that I needed a direct signature for the package. I also told them what the value of the dresses were (and I thought I would even overestimated a bit) just in case they were to get lost.

Well, both packages were delivered, but NEITHER of them received the signatures I asked for. Therefore, one was left on a doorstep in the middle of Manhattan where someone decided to promptly steal the dress from inside the box and leave the empty box waiting for it''s rightful owner. Great. Luckily, my BM in NJ lives in a secure building so it didn''t matter that my package was simply left there. Anyway, 5 weeks before my wedding, I get the call from my BM in NY who tells me what has happened and I FLIP out.

Long story short, I called Mon Amie who promptly worked throughout the weekend and the following week to contact Melissa Sweet in NY to see if there was any way to get another dress rush ordered. With all their hard work and persistence, they found me a dress, BUT it doesn''t get here until August 25th-ish and my BM doesn''t get here until August 28th (yup...my wedding is the 29th). SO that means that I have to drive her an hour each way the day before the wedding to get fitted (she gets in at 11am...rehearsal starts at 4pm...cutting it close) and then have someone else drive her on wedding day to pick up the dress. Talk about stress!!! I''m just happy they were able to work something out and that it didn''t cost me TOO much.

As for Fed-Ex, they will NEVER receive any of my business again. They almost ruined the most important day of my life thus far and had the AUDACITY to pass me off from person to person everytime I called to check the status of my claim and kept telling me to "call back another day b/c the person who is on your acct is on lunch/out of the office." This went on for over 2 weeks...so here we are 3 weeks before my wedding...they reimbursed me for the amount that I wrote on the original packing slip, but I had to pay almost 1.5 times that amount to get the new dress rush ordered.

This is a VERY long post and I apologize for taking up your time, but I HAD to get this out!

Hope everyone else''s plans are going well!!!

oh that is just terrible what you had to go through

i can''t believe the fedex person would just leave the package when you specifically requested a signature

but that is great that it is working out through your hardworking efforts even though it is cutting it close

was this the costa mesa mon amie because i didn''t have a good experience there but i''m glad they have been so helpful to you and your situation

Oh wow...that's horrible. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I can't imagine the stress

I'm glad that you were able to get another dress though...I'm sure all your BM's will look wonderful (although not as wonderful as you

ETA: Very cute BM dress!! I love it

I''m so sorry!

I have to chime in here and say I''ve made many claims with FED EX for the same reason. I require a signature, they just leave the package in the open, someone steals it! I''m in NJ, so maybe its just our tri state area FED EX. One example is a custom salt water fish tank.... HUGE package, left on my porch - stolen.

Another is my mother of the groom''s presents, delivered to the wrong address, didn''t check the signature - never recovered!

GO UPS all the way. I hate FED EX!

Ficklyfaye: It was the Costa Mesa one...what happened? I think they could do anything to me at this point and I would still love them b/c they got me my BM dress....Although I was just in for my 2nd fitting and my BM and I were waiting for a LONG TIME and it seemed like no one was even concerned that we had been there for so long (to me that''s pretty minor though).

rhbgirl: Holy crap! 3 packages! Yeah...and they''re really snotty and evasive when it comes to fixing what they did! Never again...

ams0124: Thanks! I was actually tempted to buy one myself b/c I loved it so much!

SO AWFUL! Grrrr FedEx. I hope everything works out alright in the end.

OMG! I feel my heart pounding fast just reading your post. I''m so sorry!
It will all work out. You are a wonderful friend for taking the time to drive her around :)

As in my other post to you - in the end you will be married and happy and that is all that matters.

The day when my 2.2 Cts Diamond was shipped, I took the day off, of course. I was practically looking at the window all the time. I saw the truck parking downstairs, but they never rang the bell. My husband called me to say that in the web site the package said delivered. I run downstairs and there was nothing. I went to the glass store cross the street. And there was my package

. I just can not believed it, the package was signature required. And the just dropped it across the street.

I can not stand Fedex/UPS in the Manhattan area

Wow...AWFUL sevice on their part.

I hate waiting for parcels to arrive at the best of times, but this would make me see red for sure. I''m just glad that you have found a solution to this problem. Can you claim anything back from Fedex seeing as it was their mistake?

Oh my gosh, I''m so sorry this happened to you. I really hope things get worked out. Shame on FedEx.

You know, I had the same thing happen to a co-worker of mine. He was having some jewlery delivered to Staten Island and he sat home all day. First, they claimed no one was there to sign and they''d make another attempt. The next day, they couldn''t "find" it. It must''ve gotten lost on the truck. Yeah, right.

oh HOW TERRIBLE!!! i remember i had a similar situation once, not Fed-ex, but the guys in the yellow outfits. they delivered a laptop computer of mine to the wrong address, and the person who received it acted like it was never delivered there at first! like it was his lucky flipping day, getting a free computer dropped at his doorstep. unbelievable!
