Okay, with only 4 months to go, I really need to order my invitations soon. FI and I went to Party City to look at all the invitations, and the one we settled on was pretty simple, a flat card with pearl border.
However, after seeing everyone''s invitations here, they seem kind of boring.... just plain, white, and blah.

I definitely don''t want to make my own invitations from scratch, but can you think of any little (cheap) things I could do to make them more interesting? FI says no to little ribbon bows. I thought about putting a wrap around them, but what kind of wrap? And won''t that just cover up the writing? Or should I just leave them alone?

I think they are very classic! (I know that might not make you feel better, but really I like them.)

They look nice Saturn. To add interest you could do a colored envelope, for either an outer or inner envelope. Or if you''ve already bougyt those, you could put a piece of colored vellum paper in with it. Hmmm, I''ll do some more thinking...

They look really beautiful...I wouldn''t add anything. But if you wanted to do something extra, you could get a calligrapher to beautifully write on the envelopes...

Here''s another idea. You could put a wax seal on the outer envelope. This is actually a ready made wax seal that''s like a sticker. It looks like they cost $.75 each, but maybe you could find something cheaper, or do your own real wax.

Just wanted to say, your invitations are not boring (they are beautiful, btw,) they are formal.

Most invitations on PS are semi-formal to casual.

you can have them printed in color (mine have the writing in red and it looks awesome) and lined envelopes are a very nice touch (mine are silver). Brightly colored outer envelopes or pretty sticker seals can also help.

I have the same thing for my invitations. And I want to jazz mine up too and I went to Michael''s and was walking down the ribbon aisle and they had a picture of an invitation that they made and I am copying that idea.

I have the pearl border invitations and I didn''t want just writing on there. So blah so plain right? So I am going to get vellum paper (it''s see through) and any craft store has it. They come in all colors and all designs. I am going to print my invitations on those and cut them down to size so they are smaller than the invitation. I will glue the very top of the vellum to the card so it looks like you can flip it up. And to hide the glue, I will wrap around a one ince lavender ribbon and on the front I will attach a square monogrammed sticker with our first initals on it. And that is my invitation.

I wish I had a picture to show you. This one is not a very good one but you get the idea of the ribbon all the way around with our monogrammed sticker and the vellum paper.

And I know about little ribbons so the wide ribbon wrapped around is a nice touch. Everything including the monogrammed stickers will cost next to nothing. And everyone likes personal touches to the invitations. It seems more personal.

Hey Saturn:

Check out www.paper-source.com. There are some kits you can buy to dress up invitations and just some great ideas in general of how to make your invitations original. If you look under invitations, you''ll see what I mean. You can even get a press and emboss a motif design into your invites and/or envelopes.

Another idea would be to buy a dressy velum, maybe that has your wedding colors in it and lay the sheet over your invites, so when the guest opens the envelope they see a burst of color. Or you could create a "belt" of patterned paper around each invite. This site has amazing paper! (I am addicted to cool papers and vellums etc.) http://www.papermojo.com/prints.html.

You can make the band by cutting strips about 1"-1.5" thick (on a paper cutter for accuracy or have it cut at kinkos or similar) then create a "hook" of some sort at the end or punch a hole in the ends of the strip and tie a ribbon or raffia etc. there to hold it in place. See illustration. (I am so visual- I had to draw it to make it work in my head).

I don''t think they are boring at all! They look very elegant and classy to me.

I think they''re classic and very timeless (you definitely won''t look back at them in 15 years and go OH-MY-GAWD-WHAT-WAS-I-THINKING!?)
Having said that, I can see what you mean by the fact that they''re not unique.

What about buying a rubber stamp of something related to your wedding- (heart, dove, palm tree for DW, bells, your initial, cake, whatever); something classy but also something sort of unique. They have beautifully colored stamp pads (also silver and gold I believe) that you could use to apply the stamp to the back of the invitation itself and to the envelope. I know it sounds like 2nd grade art, but I think with the right stamp, the right technique, and a beautiful ink you could really make it look like something. For instance if your wedding colors are blue and silver, you could stamp the letter or whatever in blue, and then once it is dry overlay a silver stamp on it just VERY SLIGHTLY off so it looks two dimensional, with two rich colors and metallic silver.

Good luck!

Hmmmm... The envelope liner idea intrigues me, perhaps I''ll have to look into that...
Thanks for all the ideas, as well as the affirmation that they fine as is.

Leave ''em alone! IMO, no need to junk them up with anything extra--they are simple and very elegant because of the pearl border. If you hand-address them, maybe you could use a silver metallic pen?

Another vote for leaving them alone. Classy all the way!

If you do want to jazz ''em up a bit, then I''d try the suggestions from sunkist (wax seal) and Faerievert (colored ink).

I agree. They are elegant. If you want to be creative the outer envelope is the perfect chance.

I don't think they are boring. My friend's invitations looked just like yours and I was really impressed by them. They were classic and clean, simple beautiful invitations.

ETA: I got my invitations at Michael's...they are the daisy ones...look just like the ones you posted except with 3 daisy at the top. We are not doing anything more to ours but printing on them.

Here's mine (if you can see the detail) pretty simple:
