Well, I went to the Boston Magazine site to find a good restaurant in Newton at which to meet some of my people at lunch on Friday and saw this article! Holy crap!

Probably what bugs me the most is that they abandoned their dog. That tells a lot about somebody''s character!

My first thougt is I wonder if they know something that Homeland Security hasn''t made public yet. Erie. §

DKS - I didn''t even think of that!

They did leave all the inventory and they had some major stuff in their stores. Wonder how much of it was paid for?

I am an animal lover...so it is strange that I would have this reaction to the left the dog behind part. Odds are the dog has a better care giver than any of those family members. The dog is better off. It is apparent that it wasn''t cared for a central part of the family. With that kind of money they surely have, transporting that dog would have been a simple thing to get done.

How bad could it be to just walk out? Some big FBI sting? Tax evasion of the 3rd kind? It is just weird. §

Beats me. This just came out today. In fact, when I saw the headline I thought it was just a ploy to get you to read the article. LOL! I was sure surprised that the headline was a reflection of the true subject matter! I'm sure we'll hear more in the next few days.

What is so strange to me is that this is/was a big, well respected jewelry store with major lines and pieces. But they sure left in a hurry. Wonder what is/was under the facade?

You are right about the dog. I'm sure it has already been taken in by somebody that cares. Poor baby.

Looks like the problem is financial pressure - but to just up and leave the country is still very weird. There was an rticle in the business section of the Boston Globe today. I think this is a comentary on the fate of independent B&M stores.

BTW, I'm sure the abandoned dog is fine.

As it turns out I know the neighborhood where they lived well [having grown up there] and their next door neighbors happen to be good friends of ours! What a coincidence!

bump for DG to see

Dunno. I''ll ask Bill or Sheila when I see one of them.

I apologize for the typos. I really do know how to spell!

I just read the article and then I began reading the comments at the bottom of the page (there are a TON of ''em).

Well then, it looks like there are a large number of very unhappy people. I scanned a few of the comments and there are many - mostly scathing.

I am still dismayed at the "let''s get out of Dodge" strategy. I did a lot of work in the retail jewelry industry [both commercial and top of the line retailers] when I was in mergers&acquisitions years ago. Surely there was a better way to handle this, especially if a sale is, indeed, imminent. It sounds like there is something that we don''t know. We''ll see what shakes out.

Ok, I try not to say negative things, but I have to say something here. I had an awful experience with Alpha Omega. FI and I have made several purchases from there over the past few years. Most recently, FI had bought me a beautiful watch last year from there, which I put through the washing machine 10 days after I got it. I know stupid. Well anyway, I brought it to them to get fixed. They sent it back to Gucci, and told me it would be back in 6 weeks. After 8 weeks, I called them to see how it was coming along. They''d check and call me back they said. Well this continued to happen for weeks on end, where they would tell me that the person who handled watch repair was out and he''d call me back. Well anyway, about 5 months into it I called Gucci myself, and they had no record of receiving a watch with my serial number on it for repairs. At that point I went in and had a few words with the manager, who kept denying that they we to blame. According to him it was Gucci''s fault. Anyway, I finally got my watch back after 8 months. This is really not the kind of customer service I would expect after spending that kind of money over the years.

That sux!!! I was going to send my Rolex in for servicing through them but I never got around to it. I''m glad I didn''t!
