Glad to know you''re ok Fly Girl. It''s a catastrophe of enourmous proportions. The images are horrific. My prayers go out to all that are impacted by this tragedy. So very sad.Date: 8/1/2007 10:08:31 PM

I work in downtown Mpls. We were safely home at the time, and most all of my family has checked in o.k. Bound to be someone I know involved, though. Not sure about going to work tomorrow. The bridge is right downtown, just a block or two from the Metrodome where the Twins are playing. The main hospital is across the street from the Dome. My office is about a 1/2 mile west of the bridge.
So terrible. Seems like we are seeing the survivors right now on the news. There must be a lot of people missing.
I don''t know Ellen. There''s still cars under the water and under the rubble. I had a feeling the death will mount today as they continue their search this morning.Date: 8/2/2007 10:02:04 AM

As bad as this is, and not to take away from the tragedy and loss, it could have been worse. I''m surprised at the low level of deaths, but grateful.
Oh, I do realize there may be more, but still....Date: 8/2/2007 10:06:24 AM

The exact cause is still undetermined as far as I know... but they suspect that it was structural integrity that gave out. They were doing construction on the bridge when it collapsed.Date: 8/2/2007 11:26:29 AM

The images of vehicles that somehow managed to cling on to the steep incline of wrecked bridge stun me. I can''t imagine what I would do if I were in one of them; I''d be terrified to get out and try to make my way up that incline.
So tragic, my heart goes out to the people there. I thought of the ''89 bridge collapse in SF too Mara. At least with that one, there was a reason -- earthquake (small comfort I know). Why on earth did the Minn. bridge collapse?
I remember how horrible that tragedy was, Mara. Seeing it happen here in the midwest with no quake to blame it on is tough. I have two aunts and uncles in that area and one of my uncles takes the bridge to/from work at 3M every day, I called them last night and they were both safe. That same aunt had a terrible phobia of driving across bridges for years and I was so worried for her, we''ve discussed her phobia since I had a couple panic attacks while driving last year and I learned that one day she just "got over it" and started driving across bridges again. She would seriously avoid them or make someone else drive so she could close her eyes while crossing them and pretend she wasn''t on them. She told me that she didn''t think this would affect her and cause her to revert back to that phobia again but I wonder.Date: 8/2/2007 11:07:48 AM

This is horrible...our main vendor is in Minneapolis and one of the gals on a conference call this morning says she typically takes the bridge to and from work...so glad she wasn''t on it. It brings back bad memories of the 89 quake here in N. CA where the collapsed portion of the BayBridge bridge injured and killed so many.
