Ok, so I am wondering... why is it that ALL the bridal magazines that I have found, are still only targeted at SKINNY brides? All the pictures, dress ideas, etc show size 2-4''s. It seems like we have come a long way in advertising. I only wear a size 12 dress size- I am told I am average. I have no problem shopping- and I know the bridal shops in my area carry larger sizes, at least up to 20, but why not advertise to everyone? I can''t be the only one wondering this??? Thanks for any thoughts or input.

Total agreement here! I am not, nor will I ever be, a size 4. I''m ok with it but the print media just isn''t... and my bridesmaids... other than my neice, they are all over 30, several on the high side... why is it that all the BM dress ads look like they are 22? Some of my girls are saying "NO strapless! No spaghetti straps!" but that''s all I''m really seeing. Oh sure, some dresses have sleeves but they aren''t exactly stunning...

TV media isn''t either.

i''m not exactly sure who they think they''re selling to. i do wear a small size, but i am not 6 feet tall, my legs don''t go up to my armpits and i don''t have d cup breasts!

Actually my biggest pet peeve is that many of the only pictures of a designers wedding dresses are of runway models who look like inmates of an aneorixa and drug rehab clinic, with no underwear on! How the heck can I tell what a dress might look like on a size 12 woman with actual breasts and curves if all I see are dresses hanging off of a floppy stick?

It''s not like I can try these things on locally, my state is pathetic.

The last straw, in my mind, is that they all look increadibly sour and morose. Maybe that works with regular fashion, but these are horribly expensive outfits bought by regular women for the happiest day of their life!

I find the pics of wedding dresses on most runway models DISGUSTING. Not kidding. I can''t even get an idea for whether or not I like the dress! Wedding dresses should be filled out, not hang off a stick figure.

floppy sticks aren't any less real, regular women who also want to be beautiful for their big day.

You know what really irritates me? Designers like Jim Hjelm whose trunk show gowns are the exact ones fitted to those model. Size zeros and twos. What are you supposed to do with that? The bridal salon''s answer? "Hold it up against yourself"... yeah, THAT''S why I went in to the store.

As for the advertisements-- they don''t bother me too much (I''m a 12 too) because I figure that you have to try the gowns on to really see what''s going on anyway and well... it''s the fashion industry''s standard-- not just bridal fashions. The whole thing needs an overhaul, IMO-- but it doesn''t tick me off.

I''m with COdex--every bit of Media is basically geared towards the world of size 0''s and 2''s. It''s really no wonder that even though my friends and I are mostly 4''s and 6''s that, we all think we need to work out more and eat "better." I have one friend who tapes pictures of models up all over as "inspirations." AHH. Hungry looking models and actresses give everyone unrealistic perceptions of what people ought to look like.

I''m with Gypsy on this one... in my own dress-search, I started to find that I''d try on a dress... go home and look it up online... and realize I liked it much better on ME than on the model. Certain trends do look better on stick-thin women (and I stay away from those!)... but when it comes to wedding dresses, I think a few curves can make certain dresses come "alive" in a way you just don''t get from the models.

So the ads never bothered me at all... rather than rely on the look they presented, I trusted my own eyes to judge how those dresses looked on me instead.
