So, my mom was asking me if I wanted her to tell people that my preference is for money if they ask, re, the bridal shower. I feel it's rather weird getting money at a shower! But I'm worried about having to transport a lot of big physical objects back to the US. That could get seriously pricey and be a big hassle.

So, then I had a brainwave which I thought might come in handy for one of you gals too. I desperately need more earrings. And even 20 pairs of earrings weigh next to nothing and fit in your suitcase! So I told my mom to suggest to the shower hostess that it be an 'earrings shower'. That way, everyone can choose something that expresses themselves, and it can be done in any price range.

I hope she likes the idea as much as I do. Because, I really need some new earrings!

Ohhhh, how did I become so greedy?!

BTW, this whole thing came up because the hostess of the bridal shower DID ask what I wanted, btw, so it''s not like my mom is being pushy or anything!

That''s a great idea Indy. That idea can be used with multiple variations. Along those same lines, my best friend is throwing me a stock her cellar party. Each guest will bring two bottles of their favorite wine. One is a gift to me for my wine collection and the other is opened during the shower and used for tastings. I love the idea since FI and I are both very fond of wine.

I think shower themes are pretty fun, and the earrings idea is unique!

ETA: Sap's idea is pretty good too. But both are sort of dependent on your guests having similar taste to yours. You might not be as happy getting a bunch of neon earrings or box wines

, so if you think your guests have different taste, you might want to do a more traditional "kitchen stuff" shower.

I like a theme shower. It''s more fun to shop for, too. We''ve done a "stock-the-bar" party where everyone brought glassware and bottles of their favorites. We''ve done a "wedding night" shower which included lingerie (his and hers) and um, "toys". And, one was all bed linens. (they really liked their sheets!)

That''s a really good idea! I love getting earrings and small jewelery pieces as presents.

I think I''m fairly safe with these ladies in terms of their taste in earrings. They are all pretty classy. Plus, there will be a few youngsters there (one 14, one 20 and in college) and so this way they can pick something that''s affordable for them.

Ooooh, I''m so excited by this idea! I hope my mom agrees to suggest it. I don''t see why she wouldn''t!

OH.MY.GOSH! I looooooove this idea Indy! I agree...many of us don''t need a lot more "stuff!"

I am going to have to try to think of a theme for my own shower!!! Woohoo!

it!!!

Thanks for sharing your great idea!

Ohh! Great idea :) I like theme parties but not so much the lingerie ones because I''ve been invited to bridal shower parties where I would definately not feel comfortable giving something along those lines! That and I always wonder, how are you supposed to know what size to get people for those anyways?!
