Bridal Urges

I''m not talking about the wedding night!!!

What are the things that you suddenly feel compelled to do... things you are interested in that you''ve never cared about before... all because you are a bride?

Mine so far:

1) personalized stationery... I NEVER cared before but all of a sudden I MUST have notecards with my name on them!

2) Crafts... I''ve always enjoyed crafts, but as I was picking things up at Michael''s the other day I overheard another bride on her cell talking about her wedding planner and I was wondering what it is that makes me want to buy rubber stamps in a way I never have before!

3) Nesting... or whatever you call it. M and I have spent the weekend thus far working on our garden and cleaning our house! With fervor!

4) planning dinner parties... but not till after I get all my china and crystal! I think this is because I''m excited to have "real" dishes and glasses!

so what are your "Bridal Urges" thus far?

Well, so far I''m still pretty much as I always was! But I''m surprised that I''m leaning toward a big white dress when I was pretty sure that would happen about the time that hell froze over! I have a bridal urge for organza and veils!

Yeah, IG... organza.... it has a lovely ring to it, doesn''t it?

forgot one for me... Wanting to change my look.... remember my whole thread about wanting to go brunette? I think that''s a post-bridal urge, manifesting early.

And an early engagement urge was buying wedding magazines!

we are in process of designing the maps/directions and accomodations cards to go to the printer tomorrow

if you would''ve told me 6 months ago i would care if the font used on the step by step directions matched the font on the invites, i would''ve said you were crazy. poor FI had them all done until i said "change the font".

also, with our calligrapher (fsil) i caught myself pointing out that where i have 2 names connected by an "and" they''re married, and if they''re just listed one after the other with no "and" then they live together and are unmarried. WHAT?? i''ve become someone i do not recognize!!!

I "had" to have something made from Alencon Lace in my wedding attire. Just.Had.To.HAVE.It. I dont know why. Suddenly I''m an expert on global procurement of Alencon Lace. It boggle my own mind.

Oh, wow...so much. I'd sum up this entire planning experience as one large 'bridal urge'.

At first, I didn't even want a veil. Don't like what they 'symbolize'. Then, I thought I should probably have one to look more bridal, even though I'll be wearing a long white dress. So I'd just get one from ebay, right? $13! Well, it started to look a bit like a $13 veil after looking at the picture again and again, and, well, I don't want this veil (that I didn't originally WANT) to look like a $13 veil. ~$40 later, I've found my perfect veil. That I didn't even want.

And on it goes.

Yeah...that would be the freak-out I had last month about how I NEEDED to get my shoulders and arms better toned for my strapless dress, so I hired a personal trainer at my gym on the spur of the moment. Or the $100+ I just spent on cosmetics I''ll probably never use again.

Then, I offered to go shopping with my trainer for HER wedding dress this weekend, apparently because I didn''t get enough of tulle, taffeta, and lace on my own go-round. Actually, I enjoyed helping her shop more than I liked shopping for myself.

This is SUCH a funny thread! I''ve totally fallen prey to these weird ''urges'' as you call them. We''re having a DW, and all of a sudden, I''m worried about BELLS on the table for people to ring instead of clinking the glass!? and I''m bringing pink scented tea lights with me, because lord knows the normal white one''s they have just *wont''* do. lol.

It''s so so so crazy how wrapped up you can get!! I even wove thick ribbons together to make centerpeices for each table, as suddenly the white linens were''nt enough. CAR-RAZY girl!

We bought a china cabinet today, and we are both REALLY excited about it! Seriously... we have to put the Waterford somewhere... it had just never been something either of us thought we needed, but today, looking at the half price sign, I was COMMANDED to buy it! Alas, it won''t be delivered until August 8th.

I hear ya!!! I ended up with a dress I never would have thought of a few months back. Here is what has taken over my life these days:

a) My quest to find the perfect hotel(s) for us and guests to stay at.

b) Finding and securing the right photographer (I just posted about this, again).

c) Deciding on a DJ and getting the paperwork/contract started.

d) Deciding on and reserving a RD spot.


I love flowers but I really only know the names of the most basic ones. I have no green thumb whatsoever. Oddly enough, I haven''t really cared to think about flowers yet. Maybe because I''m too tied up dealing with a-d above.

I didn''t realize how much I''d care about the invitations for our wedding. I knew I wanted something simple, but when we got the sample books I had sooo many that I like and sooo many that I didn''t. I took us forever to decide on the design and order them. I didn''t want them to be too casual or too dressy, and the font had to be something that our guests would be able to read and the cardstock had to be good - not too thin but also not like cardboard. Ugh - it was such a big deal for me. I look back and think that I must''ve been losing my mind!

I was also really wanting "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue". I had each, but each item had to be just right.
