ok. i dunno what got into me but i just felt like using ^that as the title ;-)

i've finally picked my gown and it's absolutely B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! (can't post pic yet bec FI lurks here sometimes. darn) i know most of the attention will fall on the bride as she walks down the aisle and people will not really notice what the groom wears. (ok, maybe they will notice but how far will you get with a tux/suit anyway unless you do something drastic?)

well... FI decided to wear a TUX for our wedding but he wants it in...

WHITE

yes. you read it right. WHITE. white because he said he wants to stick out. it's not a drastic change by my standard and i've no qualms over that because i've attended weddings where the groom wore all white AND the bride wore a white gown as well.

the problem is... i'm wearing a beautiful IVORY gown. IVORY and NOT WHITE. there's a big difference if you put it side-by-side.

i dunno if i'm just putting too much thought to this or not but would people notice the contrast between my IVORY gown and his WHITE tux?!?! or even worse, it'll come out ugly in the photos?!? waahhh.

a white gown is really not for me... but wouldn't it even be more weirder if he wears an IVORY tux?!?(LOL

i have to pause for a bit. i've NEVER seen an IVORY tux EVER! i'm trying to imagine what it will look like though.

are there any IVORY gown brides here whose groom also wore white on their wedding day?!? or any colored-brides here with a groom whose wearing a WHITE tux? (or maybe Ivory tux?!?) please post pix to alleviate my mood!

Listen, you are the bride and you decide the color scheme! Most guys just don''t "get" these things! He should wear a black tux with ivory vest, shirt, and tie. That way, he can stand out from the groomsmen. But no, I think the white tux would not look good at all with your ivory gown.

i''m with diamondseeker, i know your FI wants to stand out, but an ivory dress and a white suit just doesn''t seem like a good match, i''m sure people will know he''s the groom because he''s standing next to you in your pretty ivory dress

Most "white" tuxes are not a stark white, and there are tuxes that are marketed as being "ivory." If your fiance is set on a white tux, I'd suggest the two of you head on down to a formalwear shop and check out his options. I suspect any shade of white harder to come by than a standard black or gray tux, so it might be a good idea to start the tux search earlier than you normally would.

More on the white tux - with photos of a white tuxedoed grooms party:

BTW I think it's admirable that your groom is taking this kind of interest in the wedding planning!

I agree with everyone before me.

When my friend bought her ivory wedding gown, they advised her that the men in the bridal party needed to wear ivory as well or it would love like her dress was "dingy" in comparison to anyone wearing stark white.

When is your wedding? If it is in the summer or a tropical climate, would he consider wearing an ivory dinner jacket?

What about a dark brown tux with ivory shirt, vest and tie? I don''t know what your color scheme is , but a dark brown tux might look nice as well.

I hope it works out for you!

Agreed.

I had an ivory gown and DH wore a black tux with an ivory shirt, vest, and tie. His groomsmen wore black tuxes with white shirts (I thought it would look bad with them in white shirts and DH in an ivory one, but so little material stuck out on top of the vest/tie that it didn''t make much of a difference) purple vests and ties (to match the bridesmaid dress color) and the fathers and brothers wore black tuxes with black vests and ties. My husband was the only one in the ivory vest and tie and he stuck out perfectly fine against everyone elses'' purple or black vests and ties!

If it''s just a white SHIRT it''s not as noticeable a difference against an ivory gown as a white whole TUX would be. I don''t think a white tux would look good with an ivory gown. I hope he reconsiders!

would he settle for an ivory jacket? my friend had an all black and white wedding, where the groomsmen all wore black jackets/shirts/white ties, then the groom wore black pants, black vest/white shirt/black tie. i''ll look for a picture- it looked VERY classy, and i normally think white/ivory jackets look funny and kind of tacky to be honest. sorry if i offended anyone!

Hmmm... do you like the idea of a top hat or fedora to make him stand out, with a black tux? Would he go for it? Is that idea totally stupid?

i think i screwed up their colors a little bit..but this is the general idea. i blurred faces since i didn''t ask permission.

oh i think the white jacket goes well in this photo, it seems like the couple had a black and white theme tho, her dress is white as well
