Hi Ladies! I got married about two years and and next July I will be a bridesmaid for the first time! The bride has asked me for help in selecting a bridesmaid dress but I only shopped at David's Bridal when I found mine. Would you ladies mind sharing what designer you are going with for your BM dresses? We need a moderately priced line, between 100 & 200, something that is available in plus sizes and teal, lol. We are also on Long Island.

Thanks so much for your ideas!

When I was a bridesmaid in ladyciel's wedding, we selected dresses from the WToo line from Watters and Watters:

http://watters.com/catalog_list.php?coll=wtoo

The dresses retailed for around $200 in the chiffon, but we ordered them through Pearl's Place for ~$140 each, and I'm plus size and was able to find the perfect dress!

Other places to find Bridesmaid Dresses:

Happy hunting!!!

I was going to suggest WTOO as well. I also wore a dress from that line and also ordered it from Pearl's Place for the same price VC paid.

Thanks ladies!

I chose Mori Lee. My bridesmaids chose any dress they wanted in "pool" chiffon. The prices of their choices ranged from 120 to 165. I chose this line because it seemed to have lots of flattering choices for both larger busted women (no strapless dress would be church appropriate on my well endowed sisters) and tiny framed women (my sister-in-law is a size 0/2). Also, Mori Lee doesn't charge extra for larger sizes, which was very important to me. I knew that from searching online stores, and refused to pay the upcharge when my bridal salon tried to charge it. I told them that I could buy the dress elsewhere without paying extra, and they "spoke to the manager" and took the charge off.

Also, I felt the quality and workmanship was in line with the price. The dresses aren't real silk chiffon or anything, but they do not look cheaply made, and they were flattering to the variety of shapes and sizes in my bridal party. I wanted them to feel pretty on that day, but didn't want them to spend a ton of money on a dress for me.

I'm in a wedding this month, and there are no plus-sized women in the bridal party, so we ordered dresses from nordstrom. I much prefer this solution to the normal bridal lines since you can try it on in the correct size, make returns, get it shipped in two weeks, etc.

my bridesmaids wore all different dresses from mori lee "affairs" collection - most of them were not more than 120$ and they looked gorgeous!

If you want to go off the rack, J. Crew and Ann Taylor both have bridesmaid lines. Since you live near the city, you could actually make a little excursion to the stores where they carry the gowns to look in person. For Ann Taylor, look for their Celebrations line online and the stores are on 49th(?) & 5th Ave. as well as the upper east side. For J.Crew I think it is around 63rd & Madison. I used the Ann Taylor dresses for my wedding and managed to get them at a killer price--sign up for their emails and you'll get great coupons. They mostly specialize in shorter dresses and not extremely formal, so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I just hope the bride, my friend since I was 4!, can find something she likes and that we can all wear! It seems as though there really are plenty of options out there and it's just a matter of choosing! The wedding is next July so at least we still have plenty of time!

Jcrew's wedding selection is lovely and in that price range. If you look at my recent "mayachel's a mrs" post, the bridesmaid in the lightest purple dress is from them. It was easy to order any size, came within a week, etc...

We found our dresses at a traditional bridal boutique. Then, I went online to see if we could find it cheaper. I heard about Pearl's Place a boutique in Louisiana that does discounts for mail orders. They offer tons of designers. You have to do the measurements yourself. But we saved a substantial amount by going through them. They charge a flat fee of $15 shipping for the entire order and there is no sales tax if you are out of state. Once you find a dress, just call them up and ask them for the mail order price of the gowns you are interested in.

Oh, and they sell wedding gowns too! I know of a bride who got her wedding gown for $2000...it was regularly $5000!

Best of luck to you on your search.
