Here are some options I was just looking at from Nordstroms. I think I''m going to order some when my brother''s girlfriend will be in town over Christmas and let her pick whichever she likes best. Both of my bridesmaids are petite (5''1" and 5''2") and very tiny (~100 lbs) if that makes any difference. Do you guys like any of these? Have any other suggestions in a pale green color, <$200?

Here''s my wedding thread for venue/theme: Basil''s compendium

Option 1:

Maggy London Beaded Crinkle Chiffon Dress

Basil, I''m partial to the first one, but I''ve been considering it in the blue for my bridesmaids.

In this case, I think I like the first two better than the third. The third looks a little too much like like a slip, at least for my taste. Between the first two, I think a lot of it may depend on 1) what the color looks like in person and which is the better match for your theme, and 2) if your BMs have a preference for straps vs halter. They''re both cute and re-wearable dresses!

I agree with Basil. I think they''re all pretty but the third one looks too much like a slip. My vote would be for either of the first two.

Ditto

I like these dresses but in my own personal experience (I''m about 5'') v-necks and low necks in general don''t work well in dresses because they go wayyy too far down. Sometimes it works out if I wear a cami underneath though. Your maids may not have the same problem but it may be an issue. Hopefully not though!

I am also very short but I really like V necks because they look good with almost any face shape. Chiffon, especially in empire waist form is not god for women with a little more weight. If you girls are thin or just curvy it is fine, but if they are larger than that these are unlikely to be flattering.

oobiecoo - That's a good point that I hadn't thought of. I'm average height but I have a long neck/legs (so a short torso), plus I'm flat-chested (so no cleavage) and I often have the too-low problem with v-necks too. Even sweaters. We'll have to be careful of that.

BIH - My bridesmaids are both very petite, both in height and weight. I think they'd look good in almost anything, except something very heavy and long that overwhelmed them.

I'm looking for something with a little bit of a retro 1920's vibe and/or asian vibe if possible to sort of match my venue/theme. But the priority is getting something rewearable and flattering (especially for brother's girlfriend - they are young and poor students and she does not have much "nice" clothing). Are there any other dresses you'd suggest?

Do you think a sage-y color would clash with a bouquet of red/vermillion roses and green yoko onos/chrysanthemums, which are kind of limey?

Hi basil!

I personally like the style of the second one best. As a very petite person myself, I think this is the most flattering shape. I agree that the third one looks like a slip, and being on the large-chested side, that surplice front can be quite dangerous...if your BM''s are flat-chested, it''ll probably fall off, and if they''re busty, they''ll look REALLY busty! I tried on one with a top like that at David''s Bridal last year and was like, HELLO!!! The girls are on parade! I sent a picture of me in it to the bride and she said "NO WAY!!!"

I love the celery color of the second dress, too, but I''m biased because that''s the same color as our guys'' shirts!

first one definitely is a favorite, the last is too informal
and I like the second one from facetfire''s suggestion

i like dress one!! very pretty

Hi Basil,

My w-dress is lace as well - Maggie Sottero "Ophelia" and I looked at those same Nordstrom dresses for my bm''s. I am having 2 bm''s and one is 4'' 11" and the other is 5'' 0", we went with Aria Bridesmaids http://www.ariadress.com/Desciptions/Desc160KA.htm in silk shantung kiwi stripe. You can look at their photo album and see real life pics of their dresses.

I ordered them in late Sept I believe and the day I ordered them I got a call confiming a ship date of Dec. 19, well they arrived last week! My bm''s are on the east coast (i''m in CA) so I haven''t seen them on them. They both said they fit perfect, they just need to be hemmed so they don''t look they are walking on little stub legs, LOL. The both also said they would totally wear them again, that''s what I was going for. I''d hate to spend $200 for a one time thing. I''ve only been a bm once, but i''ll never wear that dress again.

My bridal shop had some books for Jade and Belsoie or Jasmine -- not overly expensive dresses, but the fabrics are VERY nice. My sister''s dress was a beautiful sage green Jasmine B2 tea length (strapless) and we ordered a matching jacket. It was comfortable, gorgeous, and she received compliments all night long from complete strangers - even men! It was style B8033, and you can see it on the Jasmine site. Actually, my shop asked them to subsitute a higher end fabric they called Tiffany Chiffon, and it was well worth a few extra $ for the exchange of fabrics. She was thrilled with her dress.

Dress #2. I have seen lots of girls recently at weddings and parties in dresses very similar too (if not the same as) dress #2, and it looks great on all shapes and sizes.

I like the 2nd one best, and I think it matches the your wedding venue reception wonderfully!!!
(the 1st looks alittle too Grecian for my taste)
