So I''ve been looking for a buffet that includes wine storage and fits in a rather narrow space. The width isn''t an issue, it''s the depth. 18" is the max without creating an impediment... so I found two pieces that fit that requirement and they are both modular so I can actually make them even longer if I want to... or move them easily into a new house. They aren''t "fine furniture" but that''s ok for this.

So option number 1 is from Pottery Barn and comes with FREE delivery, but I wouldn''t get it for 3 months as it isn''t available until April. I also have a $150 gift card to PB we got for a wedding gift, plus a 10% off coupon. The list price is $850 + tax.

Option #2 is from Crate & Barrel and is slightly larger than the PB piece, but still fits the space limitations. It lists for $837 and shipping is $70, but I could have it in a week.

So do you like one better than the other? Any other ideas that don''t cost $3k?

I actually like PB''s better (which is surprising b/c my style is more C&B). I like the look of the wine rack better (with the vertical divisions too) and the darker color better.

I like the PB one a lot better too. Unless you need it right away, I would wait.

Also, is there a possibility that maybe a local store might have one in stock? I don''t know how that works but it might be worth a call...

Yeah, when I look at them right next to each other like that, the CB one really looks like it''s missing something. I''m usually more of a CB girl, clean lines and such, but the PB one isn''t as country as their stuff can tend to be. Plus we have that gift card... and no, we don''t need it immediately... I just tend to prefer immediate gratification! They don''t sell it in the stores though, it''s listed as "catalog/internet only".

Before I pick one or recommend anything. What exactly is your style? Both of those look kind of transitional to me.

My style is definitely transitional. We live in a renovated rowhome, with bits of old and new rolled in. 100 year old wood floors, exposed brick painted white (with a plasma tv mounted on it), ancient banister, but with a little bit more modern touches like black appliances, glass shelves, chrome, black and stainless accents. As our main floor is all one big room, flowing from the entry, through the living room, dining room, and then kitchen, it all has to coordinate. I think either of these would fit our style.

If you can find something better, please go for it! We''d like to stay under $1k and it has to fit in a space 55" wide, 18" deep (but shallower is better), and can be up to 42" tall. I''d like to have some wine storage and some cabinetry with drawers as we got a lot of serving pieces from our registry and I have to put them somewhere. If it were raised a bit on feet, it could be wider, but by stopping at 55", I avoid having to close off a floor register.

Have you looked at Home Decorator''s Collection? We just bought a nice craftsman style cabinet from there to use as a china cabinet. Here''s a link to their sideboard/buffet section. I don''t immediately see any with wine storage, but its possible some have it. Home Decorators. Some items are assembly-required, but that keeps prices down a bit.

Also, I was comparing the PB and C&B buffets you posted, and other than the configuring of the wine storage, the only main cosmetic difference is in the handles on the top drawers. PB has the antique style half-oval ones, which I like a lot better. If you wanted to go with the more expedient route of C&B, you could just change out the hardware for a quick aesthetic improvement.

Thanks Selkie! I did look at them but most everything they have is just a wee bit too big and the assembly required part scares me away some as M and I don''t have the best record on that for things involving drawers or moving parts.

Crooked Rock... you''re good! I got a Ballard catalog yesterday but hadn''t looked at it yet. There are a couple there that are contenders. The West Elm ones are cool but look like the assembly could be an issue... not a lot of room for error.

Glad I could Help! I guess it helps that I do this for a living...

Don''t be scared. I bought a sideboard/buffet from them and it was really easy to put together. Everything is labeled. Also Selkie is right, can''t beat their prices!

I like the PB one alot, and also the first 2 from Ballard that Crooked posted. The C&B buffet is a little too plain to me, so I would go with one of the other ones. What a fun project, I wish I had room in my condo for one of these-they're so cute!!!

After looking at all the sizes and prices, I went with the Pottery Barn piece. I had to call in to order it because my completion discount wasn''t showing up online and I WANTED that 10% off! The lady said "It should be there by Wednesday of next week." I said "huh, the site said April." She said "It''s not saying that here..." Well, cool! So I don''t have to wait! This means I can start displaying some of the 12 crystal bowls we got for the wedding! They are too heavy to put in my glass shelved curio.

YAY.

Good choice, that''s what I was going to say. I love PB.

Yay, Sumbride! This is great. I really like your choice. I''m sure it will look lovely in your place.

i vote for the pottery barn buffet

It was delivered this week and we already love it. I need to flip the door around on one of them (it already has holes, I just have to do it) but it''s great! Fits the space PERFECTLY and makes our home feel more cozy. We''re VERY happy with it!

Ohhh...good to hear Sunbride!!! Have any pics for us?

Well, it looks a lot like the one at the top of the thread! But here''s what it looks like in my house... It was hard to get a good pic though without moving the table out of the way, so I had to go for an angle shot.

Looks great! Very classy. Is it an antiqued finish? Hard to tell from the catalog pic.

woohoo-I was just about to vote for the PB one but then I see you''ve already got it! It''s definitely a beauty!

I might call it "distressed", but it''s more of a powdery black. Not glossy black lacquer, but a sort of rubbed black. I hadn''t thought about it before but it matches our stairs perfectly. The risers on the stairs and the spindles of the banister are both painted black. It ties it all together really nicely.

The kitties are still sort of exploring so I haven''t filled it up yet, except for the wine.

Love it! Looks great! Thanks for posting the pic!
