Our local news station just had a story on about a local woman finding bugs in her soup.

It was Progresso''s Beef and Barley and they showed the three little critters that she found floating in it. KUCK! How on earth does this happen????

I love soup. Kinda ruins it for me...

<--me throwing up in my mouth...heheh.

That''s gross..

Ewww.

I found a large, LIVING, green catepillar in my clubhouse sandwich at a restaurant once!

so I know what you mean ... It''s so SICK! Here''s me

joining you ...

yum protein

Did you know that the average box of cereal contains enough bug parts to make 2 bugs.

If that grosses you out, I''m not even going to TELL you what we''d find in the wheatgrass when I worked at Jamba Juice. Eeew.

Ha, I was just going to put on the little tidbit that Storm offered!

I wouldn't eat that particular can of soup, but it won't stop me from eating canned stuff. I have two family members who've worked in food factories. One of them worked with mushrooms. (so smelly!!), and the stuff that they simply brushed off the shrooms is enough to turn my stomach. The other worked in a name brand boxed food factory. They would pull out odds and ends and send it on its way!

I guess you can't beat fresh foods. Which is going to have worms, bugs, dirt, fertilizer....

These things happen. Always bring your canned foods to a boil; always wash meat and chicken (except hamburger, and you don''t want to know what is in that, trust me); and never eat unwashed vegetables.

And the obvious lesson here is LOOK first before cooking or eating.

I guess its was a contaminated batch of barley that was provided to the soup manufacturer. Bad process in storing bythe barley provider, bad production by the soup manufacturer by not checking received products. Bugs love barley.

Isn''t that just the best reason to do your own cooking? Whatever bugs might be in your veggies you would wash off, although I''ve never found any. I have a vegan friends who generally buys organic. She says she stopped buying organic broccolli because she kept finding caterpillars in the heads, so she switched to regular. That surprised me because caterpillars are natural and all you have to do is wash them off. Pesticides are a lot more harmful if you follow the whole vegan, organic philosophy. I guess there''s a really good reason most people don''t mind the pesticides -- they can''t do the bugs.

Gross, I posted a picture on PS of a worm I found in a can of asparagus. Ground up bugs I cant see are one thing even though they shouldnt be there. To actually see it is nasty. Stories like this are good for people like me who need to lose a few pounds-haha.

I have found several bugs in organic food from Wholefoods. You have to expect it since it's supposed to be pesticide free. What bugs me is I always find them in my artichokes; stuck in between leaves-When I'm almost to the good part

Hmmm...I found a staple in my pasta at Macaroni Grill once. I''d rather find bugs. They''re in all of the processed food that we eat. Don''t get me started on how much feces and cockroaches there are in all of the foods we eat.

I''ll stop now

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, Thanks Storm. I may never eat cereal again. LOL.

I found ultra mini slugs in a head of organic romaine a few years back but I still buy organic. It should be obvious that bugs possibly COULD be in the organic produce since it''s not been contaminated with pestisides? If the food was grown in a home garden, it''d have all kinds of insects that''d be needed to wash off.

I am OK with finding bugs and other ickies in fresh foods because I expect to wash them thoroughly prior to cooking or eating. I am not so OK with finding them in processed or cooked foods. Ick!!!

I''m pretty unsurprised by this. Even if there are no bugs 99.9999999etc% someone makes up the numbers

I think sometimes we are all a bit precious about what we eat.

I can relate to the organic brocolli problem though. I grow my own at home and once the grubs are in the head you can never wash them out

It doesn''t bother me too much but my girl refuses to eat it..which upsets the gardener no end!

OMG, I wish I never reopened this thread, as if the soup wasn''t bad enough. Ignorance really is bliss.

Ooof. Thanks, guys. You really helped me on my diet efforts today...now I have no appetite at all! Yuck!

maggots eeeeeeeew. That is the worst.

i agree re: protein...yum!!

honestly i wouldn''t freak to find a bug in my canned soup or whatever....we find bugs in our artichokes, our lettuce. if you ever get a moth in the pantry, watch out! you''ll find little things in your rice or pancake mix etc. sometimes i am like ''eh whatever'' hahaa...i mean if you cook it properly it won''t hurt you.

though i do feel like if i am at a restaurant they should be checking things pretty well so that you don''t find random items in your soup or food, or at least it''s not RECOGNIZABLY random bug like a whole caterpillar or something. i can eat random bugs at home for free!!

i''d be way more freaked out staples or non-organic items in our food...that could really hurt you if you ingest something like a staple or glass or whatever. bugs...eh.

Ewwww, maybe that''s what she was talking about. I''m afraid I''d have a hard time with that myself if I couldn''t wash them out. She''s very hard core vegan, so maybe I should realize that if it grossed her out it''s pretty gross.

I eat a lot of broccolli, so I''m torn between the grubs or the pesticides.....

My mothers friend bit into a chocolate kimberly biscuit a couple of years ago and it was full of maggots. I''ve never been able to eat them since

Hmmm....
Regarding foreign objects in food items, and this one is regarding chocolate in particular. I thought the video was interesting but I know everyone on here will enjoy the last couple of seconds and when the newscasters have to say as concluding remarks.
