Meet the Workplace Bully

Forum : Have You Been Bullied at Work?

i know i have had a horrible experience with a boss who was a big bully. one of THE worst experiences of my life. however, i met FI there so out of all the crap came something really great.

this boss was a woman and i think she felt alot of insecurity. however i felt she put on herself unhealthy competition with her peers most of whom were guys. the strange thing is that her boss really liked her and i think her peers thought she was smart and competent but she still felt very insecure. she loved to wield her power with her subordinates. she even told someone once that they should sit at lunch with a certain group in the company??!! she went through people very quickly so it made me feel a little better about not being able to hack it there.

i learned that life is too short so if it is not working at your place of work, just start looking somewhere else - and don''t think it is your fault and try to make it better - just leave. i''m now at a company that really knows how to foster a healthy work environment and i couldn''t be happier.

anyone have advice on how to deal with a workplace bully? i know you can''t always leave your job as soon as you''d like but any tactics on how to maintain one''s sanity and health?

I''ve found that if you stand up to those people, they back off. Would-be bullies respect people who stand their ground (though they''ll never admit it).
