Just a weird random thing but I wanted to share .... yesterday my dog had a pal dog over to play and we saw them sniffing around a spot in the yard. Sniff, sniff jump back ... sniff, sniff, flinch. Turns out there is a NEST OF BABY BUNNIES smack in the middle of my back yard. A spot I *know* I mowed just a couple of days ago (was it underneath then? miracle of survival??) Anyway - all us humans were gathered around looking at them & I was kinda afraid our scent might have scared away its mom. But then this am I see the mom keeping watch under a nearby bush ... and, then, JUST NOW ... I see one of the BABY BUNNIES jump up out of the nest and hop away!!!

There are three others that haven''t (I think) made their move yet ... and the mom bunny (tiny herself) is still camped out nearby.

But I am just delighted beyond belief! GIDDY even. BABY BUNNIES! In my YARD!!! Their ears were just darling and I''m so glad our gawking didn''t banish them to a life of starvation! Am keeping my tiny pup out of the yard for now. But SQUEE!!! Bunnies!

I know this thread is worthless w/o pix ... but every shot I could get through the window ended up being a close up of SCREEN.

Maybe once they''re more active I can sneak out & get some pix from outside. Right now I''m afraid to scare everyone away!

i do hope you get pics - maybe while they sleep. hehe

Its so funny ... just the day before this discovery my DH & I were getting gas & while he was pumping we both saw a bunch of baby bunnies frolicking & tumbling over each other & scampering all along a neighboring patch of grass. We were both transfixed. Then ... next day ... backyard babies. I hope these cuties are 1/2 as active as the gas station ones.

Hahahahaha!

I really want them to be somewhere safe, and because I''m trying desperately to grow an herb garden, I kind of don''t want them in our backyard for too long (or the lawn will NEVER get mowed)!

OMG LOL, backyard babies!!! I am sure they will be darling! Whenever I try to take pics, I just get their little tuff of fluff from the back. hehe

The only thing that I have found living in my yard is usually bats
14.gif
I would love baby bunnies OMG how cute :).

I did find a nest of kittens one day we now have one living with us :).

EEEEK! BABY BUNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIES! WE WANT PICS! WE WANT PICS!

I understand not bugging the babies yet, though! I would just die to have baby bunnies in my yard!

(Just don''t let your doggie eat them! My best friend has 3 dogs and they are baby bird murderers! She has to stand guard over the babies when she lets her dogs out until they can fly for real!)

I LOVE baby bunnies!!! We used to get them all of the time in the backyard when I was little, and always would sneak peaks at them during the day, (and the mother''s always came back). I have a mini-lop rabbit that I keep inside, BunBun, who is 5 years old now! I think rabbits have been my favorite animal, so cute and cuddly!

Awww. I wuv wittle bunnies.

So do my dogs, unfortunately
40.gif

Our yard is surrounded by neighbors with dogs, so the bunnies live in my yard. They have eaten up my hydrangea (down to the ground...one day the flowers were there, and the next there was no bush at all). Over the winter they ate two huge shrubs down to the ground. They have eaten up my black eyed susans. I am battling back with chicken wire, humane traps and stinky urine products. The bunnies remain and are as healthy as ever.

Deco, you can keep the baby bunnies, and you can have all of mine as well.

Love bunnies! But you''re right...this thread is no good without pics, missy!''

TGuy is not into bunnies. He thinks all rabbits are feral since they a plague in Australia.

Didn''t another PSer recently post pics of baby bunnies her her yard? You really could start a bunny club!! Much better than the playboy variety.

I''m so jealous that you have bunnies...and a yard, for that matter. Growing up I sometimes stumbled on a nest of baby bunnies. It took all the willpower I had not to pet them. The cuteness they exude is like cryptonite to bunny-lovers. Must. not. touch. bunnies. I''m so glad you saw them and can hopefully see them all leave the nest (and stick around)...maybe put some carrots around your lawn
2.gif

Wheeeeeeeee we had baby bunnies in our yard growing up too. SO FREAKIN CUTE!!!

Now get your behind out there and take pics! As long as you don''t touch them mama won''t abandon them. I want to see fuzzy bunny fur!!!!
27.gif

Awww guys!! Sorry to disappoint! Still no pix. The camera is all charged up ... as is a VIDEOCAMERA. They weren''t very active today -- didn''t see a baby leave the nest ... but the mom was around so I think they are okay.

Fingers crossed for BOUNCIN'' BABY BUNNIES tomorrow!!!!

ps -- fun to hear everyone''s bunny stories. So far my Hydrangeas are okay. There''s a FIELD of wild blackberries behind my house inside my fence (long story) so she seems to be going back there for food more than my lame perimeter plants.
3.gif

I have nothing to add except BUNNIES!!
36.gif

YAYAYAYAY! I am also a bunny lover!
30.gif

They sound so adorable, and it''s adorable how excited you are about them. I don''t think I''ve ever lived in a house where we didn''t have bunnies in the yard [country girl...
20.gif
], and it''s so much fun to watch them grow up before your eyes. Little miracle balls of fur that they are.

I was so pleasantly surprised when I went off to college and low and behold- BUNNIES outside my dorm, too!! Feels like home. ;)

PICTURES, please!!

Ah, I love BUNNIES!!! My parents have a huge backyard and parts of it were always a little bit "native" so we always had a bunny family or two hopping around back there. My dad planted several stands of pampass grass around the perimeters of the yard about 10 years ago and now there are SEVERAL families of bunnies! They all live in the center of the grass plants... so he can mow with no worries. He won''t admit that he planted them for the bunnies, but everyone is happier now.

I bet she is happily munching those blackberries! YAY! Bunnies!!!

Lol "lame perimeter plants." I gotta say, I''d head for the blackberries, too.

But BUNNIES. Omg. When I was in the 4th grade I got left behind from a field trip (I didn''t do my homework or something), and during recess, there was a baby bunny next to the building. I walked over and just scooped it up, and it let me. I didn''t know I shouldn''t have touched it, and my principal made me take it home. She was SO CUTE. Even in my little kid hands she fit, but she eventually got mean and started biting, and then she jumped in the toilet and drowned

Now that I have ruined the thread...omg I am so rude.

We have a baby squirrel at work...I''ll have to post pics of him, he has no mama so I feed him granola. decodelighted, can''t wait to see pictures!

And slight thread-hijack - OMG Annie what kind of dog is that in your avatar?

I used to have a pet baby squirrel and it was the coolest pet EVER to have. He was found by my younger sister as a small baby left in the middle of the road, so of course she had to pick it up to get it out of the road and then thought the mother would or maybe already had abandoned it... so she took it home. It was totally tame, but we let it go, eventually. We also had to get a permit to keep it, since it''s a wild animal. It was a cool experience.

To get back to the true topic at hand: I''d love to have a house bunny!

Fingers crossed!!! Any pics? I put something in your Who''s Who in case you haven''t hopped over there.

I had a couple of domestic bunnies growing up. They became so tame that I would let them out in the backyard (fenced) and they would follow me along like a dog.

My dad had one when he was a kid too! His was a flying squirrel though - it would fly from one curtain rod to the next when it didn''t want to be caught. LOL I would love to take this little baby home, he''s darling. I touched his tail the first day I saw him and he spun around, fluffed up like a spiky cat, and then scampered away. He was so little then that he couldn''t walk on the grass because it was too tall, so I think I just freaked him out a little lol.

Every day though I come in afraid the coyotes have gotten him. We started out with three babies, and only one is left
