Last night, while my fiance''s car was parked on the street in front of my house for 2 hours, it was broken into. The thieves RIPPED his stereo out of the dashboard (there were broken wires and knobs on the floor) and took his cell phone car charger and my case full of CDs.
Living in Atlanta, this is the second time his car has been broken into in the past 2 years. And, his apartment was burglarized two years ago as well. And we live in a supposedly "nice" part of town.
It just makes me so angry that people would do this and will probably get away with it. The police barely seem to care about crimes like this. And meanwhile, us poor grad students have to just pay up to replace what''s been stolen or destroyed.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Sorry, just needed to vent. At least no one was hurt, and the things can be replaced.

This is why people migrate from cities to more suburban and rural locations. I had my fill of living in Philadelphia years ago. ANything that was not welded in place got either vandalized or stolen. Its a way of life if you are willing to put up with it. It is also something that many good people are forced to live with as they have little economic choice. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have better options often decide to take them. We moved so that my kids could attend good public schools, where we could wake up with our homes and possessions in one piece every morning, and with reasonably caring government.

In more recent years there have been many empty nesters and affluent prople moving back into the downtown. It is a super place with lots to do and places to go, but it still is a place of rather high crime and some fear after dark. I am going to stay out in the suburbs and not move back in town. I remember why I moved out. Others seem to have forgotten why they or their parents moved away years ago.

I feel for you. Keep your stuff locked up and don''t leave tempting things in a car. Its a little too late for that advice right now, but the people who did this will surely make a return visit to your block soon. Let them take something from someone else instead. It would make me angry and upset, too.

Oh Saturn, I''m so sorry

You must feel so violated! I know how it goes, my car was broken into like that too a few years ago. Quick recap, I was living in a college town in a townhouse with my boyfriend and a few other people. I couldn''t park in front on the house cause there was only two spots and you had to have a permit to park there, which I didn''t. So I would park up on the street with like 60 other cars. The morning of my first test of the new semester, I walked up to my car to go to class. I get there and upon opening the driver-side door, notice that everything that was in my glove box was on my front seat. I thought it was strange, but I thought maybe my bf had been in there and did it as a joke. So I opened the door and went to sit down and that''s when I noticed there was a big hole in my dashboard where my cd player had been. My radar dectector was gone, and in the backseat was all the clothes I had been keeping in my trunk, strewn over the glass that was all over the seats as they bashed out the back window to get in

I was so upset, crying, yelling. I called the police to file a report and get this, this is what he told me, " Oh yeah, this is the most burglarized block in the whole city. As a matter of fact, 4 other cars besides yours were hit on this block last night, this is my 3rd time here this morning filing a report. You should try to park somewhere else" WHAT?! No, you''re the cop, YOU should be doing your job and be PATROLING this area more often if it is the most burglarized part of the city, you think?!

Anyway, I had to replace everything myself, as my insurance deductible is $500 and the total cost of the damage was only $650, it wasn''t worth it to file a claim. I was sooooo mad!!
Anyway, I hope that all this works out! It''s so infuriating when you work hard for what you have and then some a**hole just comes and steals it one day. Just goes to show that everyone has different morals and ethics, some have none at all. I hope you get your things back!

I am so sorry that just the pits!!!! I''ve had my car broken into and it''s awful.

That makes me what to GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. That PISSES me off with a capital P. How DARE they touch our stuff. How dare they put a hand on anything that's mine. NO RESPECT. People just don't care and the kids today are being raised with no morals. it's a sin!

I moved to a new neighborhood 1 1/2 years ago in Queens. My SECOND day parking ont he street, one of my mirrors was stolen. So now I pay $150 for an indoor garage thanks to those b*stards. Well, that's not enough. I'm sitting home on a sun morning and we get a call. People broke in to the garage and smashed in about 10 cars, mine being on of them. Thank god it was only the window. They took nothing but a cup of change. B*STARDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I drove around the junk yards in back of Shea Stadium (the only places open on Sundays) and I was AMAZED at the business. It was like fast food drive through. You'd just roll your window down and yell "2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver's side" and they would tell you if they had it. People were all missing mirrors, windows, etc. It was GROSS!.

Sorry this happened to you and sorry for the rant. UGH. PEOPLE SUCK.

Funny thing is, they didn't touch the BMWs or Mercedes. I was like SEE, WE SHOULD HAVE GOT THE B'MER LOLOL. I think they have better alarm systems. My car is all pimped out LOL but I guess it's not enough. Gee, so in the interests of safety, I better get that X5

Saturn...I''m so sorry! There is nothing worse than to have your personal things violated by strangers!!

I had a similar incident years ago where I walked out to my car to go to work and the window was rolled down. Confused me, but I thought I was too tired the night before (got home late) to remember to roll it up. When I got into my car, there were wires everywhere! They pulled out my stereo system and stole my CDs and an extra storage of my DH''s medications that we keep on hand in case of emergency (migraines). The police were able to life full prints off the windows, but nothing ever came of it. The stupid thing was I had a stereo with a removable faceplate. I religiously took the plate out, but that night I was so tired that I forgot...goes to show how important diligence is...

AChiO, Yup, I ALWAYS take my faceplate out now!! It''s so sad that I have to do it, but I don''t want it to go missing again

Not to hijack the thread, but real quick. My dad''s HOUSE was broken into in April. He was at work and so was my stepmom. The burglars threw a railroad spike (there''s tracks in the far back part of their yard) threw the bay window in their dining room. The spike sailed through the family room, bounced off the hardwood floors and dented them, then landed underneath their coffee table. The people then climbed through the window and walked around the house, leaving mud all over the plush white carpets. My dad has alot of nice things, but all they took was some spare change! We think maybe they were scoping things out for a return visit
15.gif
. Well, I hope they don''t come back because his house now has an alarm that sounds like a damn air-raid siren when it goes off!! It''s so freakin loud, the police station will hear it!! My dad also has a loaded gun in the house, so anyone that breaks in while he is there will not walk out alive. I hope it never comes to that, but I understand where my dad is coming from. If someone walked into my house uninvited, I would shoot them too.

Why are people raising their kids like this these days?! With no morals. My God, you are supposed to raise your children so that they work hard and EARN the things they have!! Not to go STEAL them from someone else!!

Really t''s me off!!

I know how you feel, it''s terrible. I have a funny story though about how I indirectly had my revenge on the burglers who broke into my car some years ago. This was in the late 80''s and they stole my new car speakers which I had saved up for ages to buy. I was furious as you can imagine when I first saw what had happened. However, I soon saw that they had also stolen a brown case out of the back which looked for all the world like a cassette tape case. It was quite heavy and they must have thought they had a very profitable nights work. Unbeknownst to them, the case actually contained plastic hair rollers which I stored in my car!!!!!!
11.gif
Later that day I saw the odd hair roller in the road a couple of villages on and found the case a little further away down a mud track, where they had obviously hurled it in disgust!!!! HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have LOVED to have seen the look on their faces! It made me feel a bit better about them helping themselves to my speakers.

Sorry to hear about what happened, it really makes my blood boil when I hear of things like this. I hope the police can catch them and you get your stuff back, good luck.
