My new obsession is an asscher right hand ring, very similar to the Daniel K or that amazing ring that Kaleigh is waiting for. However, saving up for it is going to be a sloooooooooow process

, probably 3 years or so. Should I buy a smaller stone now (perhaps another round) from a vendor with a solid trade-in policy and set it in a simple setting, and then trade it in for the dream asscher or should I just be patient and buy the dream ring when I have all the money upfront?

Hi. I vote for being patient. If you buy something just for the sake of trading it in later, you're not likely to be happy with it. I would get a short-term certificate of deposit and keep reinvesting it or put the money in an interest-paying account until I'm ready to get the one I really want. Also, it's sometimes difficult to get a fair value for a trade-in.

I agree... Though I feel a bit like a hypocrite... I hate waiting.. and pateince is not one of my virtues... I think that you should wait and get exactly what you want. IMO

Trust me, patience is definitely not my virtue when it comes to diamonds.

LS did you try this style on? I did last week and as amazingly beautiful as it was, it looked horrible on my hand.

I was REALLY disappointed (though hubby was not...he looked relieved when I told him)...because I would adore a RHR asscher.

Mara, I have tried the Daniel K on numerous times, and loved it! Perhaps I should try again, though....(any excuse to visit my beloved Daniel K).

HEE well then sorry there is no hope for you or your budget.

I was kind of relieved when I tried it on (and sad too) but I really love the setting. It looked NOTHING like Lovey''s does on her beautiful hand. It was just really not working for my hand unfortunately.

i am a fan of waiting in this case. It will feel well deserved and worth the wait once it finally arrives.

I agree with waiting. Maybe investing the money that you would have spent on purchasing a smaller stone now.

Another vote for waiting here: I could have gotten a much better or larger oval if I hadn't been so hasty w/ the RB. Also w/trade-up, you're relying that the company will be open w/ the same policies still when you're ready. G-d willing they're still running and honoring trade-up but you never know. Better to save for exactly what you want. Mondera used to do trade-up(on their own diamonds) but stopped.

*I tried on a beautiful square emerald cut ring the other day but on me it was blocky and did nothing for my hand. (pout) I have to stick with ovals and rectangular shapes. Disappointing but educational.
