Hi,

So I found the dress I want (Watters 2039B) but haven''t ordered it yet because I want my Mom to see it. I live in Boston, and my Mom lives in Florida. I''m going down there this weekend and I found a store that carries that dress, and the woman told me the price, which is $100 less than up here. I know $100 isn''t a ton of money, but hey, every little bit helps when wedding planning, right?? (And mentally, $900 sounds a lot better than hitting the $1K mark)

So what''s actually involved in buying a dress?? Do you do fittings at the store or do you just do them at a tailor/seamstress who will be doing the alterations? If I did buy the dress in Florida (another thing is that my Mom is actually buying the dress for me, so it''d be easier to do it while we''re together), would they ship it to me up here and then I''d just to go a tailor on my own? Or do some bridal shops work with shops in other states so they could ship to a store up here and then I''d work with that store?

Anyone have any insight?

THanks!

I bought my dress during a watters trunk show in Chicago. I lived in Chicago at the time and was getting ready to move out to LA. I knew it was the dress I wanted, but I had planned on just ordering it from netbride or pearls place online, to get it a bit cheaper. I ended up ordering it at Fields with the trunk show discount because they said since they were shipping it to me in LA I wouldnt have to pay sales tax!

So that would be my advice to you, order it in Florida and have them ship it to you. That way it will be more than $100 savings as you wouldnt pay sales tax! And with alterations, stores usually jack up their prices. It is better to go with a reputable seamstress or dressmaker in your area!
