I have read before that some people (shopaholics or or something else) will buy multiples of the same item, say a black, red, brown, blue skirt which is the same just different in colour.

I used to know a lady who wore two gold knot rings one or her right ring finger and the other on her left middle finger and they were identical. I used to think why did she not use the opportunity to buy a different design.

So do any of you or do you know anyone who does this with jewellery: diamond rings, pendants, bracelets etc.

I do.

I have two 2 mm bands, one 14KY, one Platinum which I wear depending on my mood (all 14KY look, or a two-tone look).

I also have a tanzanite ring and a synthetic blue sapphire ring in the same design, and just recently ordered a Pink Sapphire ring in the same design because I happen to like that design.

lovely Cflutist. However you have different looks as does the different coloured clothes look although the same design.

I just wonder why that lady I knew had two knots the exact same, maybe they were significant to her in life in someway, I wish I had asked her now. The next time I see her if she still wears them both I may ask her.

Yeah, I do it, too. I have two identical bracelets, one in yellow gold and one in white. I also have a few pairs of earrings that I have identical YG and WG. While not exactly the same, I also have two .75 carat diamond solitaires, again one of each.

I''m one of those people who does this with clothing and shoes, too. If I find something I really like, I buy several in different colors.

I do it all the time with clothes. I have a VERY hard time finding my size so when I do actually luck up and find them I buy as many as I can. Often times I will get them in the same exact color....mainly black or beige and blue jeans...if I really like them and know that I will have a terrible time finding them again. As far as jewelry, I probably would buy several of the same ring, bracelet or pendent in different stones or metals to suit my mood.

Maybe that person likes to be symmetrical and hasn''t gotten around to having the one ring sized to fit the same finger on the other hand?

Hm, I could go with another ring identical to my ering to wear on my right ring finger.

Symmetry can be a lot of fun sometimes.

I guess I am a shopaholic by that definition then. When I find a pair of shoes or a shirt that looks great on me, I swoop up one of each color. As for jewelry, I have 4 engagement type rings, and 3 wedding bands. I mix and match as I please, but they don''t look all that different, they are all platinum (except for one of the wedding bands which is white gold) all of my ''e-rings'' are between 1-2 carats, so no huge size variance either. All my earrings are studs, and they are all platinum, white gold with diamond or CZ, so they all look the same too.

Some items I own are almost exactly the same....I have about 20 pairs of BLUE JEANS, about 15 pairs of BLACK SANDALS, 10 BLACK SKIRTS, 10 PAIRS of BLACK PANTS, and a ton of KHAKI CAPRIS. Dh always asks me why I bother to go shopping, it seems like I wear a uniform everyday.

I do it with clothes, I''m not rich enough to do it with jewelry yet!!

. I''m a total winter clothing shopper! I spend all my money in the fall and winter on different sweaters, tweeds, jackets, pants, etc. In the summer, I''m really laid back and wear real casual tanks and tees with jeans and simple skirts and sandals. So many times I will go to JC pennys or Kohls or somewhere cheap and buy a basic t-shirt in an array of colors. Right now I have one style of shirt in 5 different colors. It''s nice because I make them look different by putting different accessories with them and different shoes ( I have many many many many shoes, just ask DH, he actually took our video camera and scrolled down the shoe section of our closet once to make fun of me!!

). So it works out pretty well, and I don''t spend alot of cash.

Someday when I have more money I will walk into a jewelry store and say "I''ll take that in platinum and one in yellow gold, please!!"

So where is the line?

All of us do this to some degree. I buy lots of the same items for basic things. Socks, Undies, etc. Basic work clothing & casual clothing (i.e. Blue Jeans) up to white dress shirts.

Yet, on normal shirts I have a vaiety of differnt ones (although I do tend to buy seveal at once of the same pattern because it is hard to find my exact size - and then store the "extra" for the future).

On the other hand. I never buy multiple cars or houses...

The real question is where people draw the line on which items they buy multiple''s on.

If it''s jeans or black pants for work--I''ll buy five pairs and even have them hemmed so they are ready to go. Same with "little black dresses." Thank goodness I haven''t started this with jewelry--but I have thought about it with one or two pieces.

I do it with clothes all the time. As my name suggests, I''m short. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to find clothes that fit and flatter my figure without making me look twelve years old. I literally have 4 pairs of the same size and same wash GAP long and lean jeans. (In the ankle length, obviously

) If I find dress pants that work, I''ll buy them in every flattering color I can find, and usually two in black. It is also hard to find proportioned shirts, so I''ll often buy many if I find a cut I love.

I also have duplicates of some of my jewelry pieces. (All cheap stuff, though!) Usually, it is for a layering or stacking effect. IE, I have a few of the same thin rings and a few of the same necklace. I have purchased duplicates of CZ stud earrings, because I assume that czs will look scratched and dull fairly quickly with daily use. Therefore, I buy replacements from the get-go, in case I can''t find the same style at a later date.
