At first I was hesitant to purchase online because it's tough to wire a lot of money to some unknown entity! But my thirst for the perfect diamond forced me to overcome my suspicious nature. I worked with a few online retailers so I want to outline my experiences in the hopes that it helps you!
Diamond #1:
I purchased from https://www.b2cjewels.com/ but ended up returning because it was lovely but looked awful with my pale complexion. They sent me the requested photos and certs, and their return process was smooth and pain free when I decided the stone just wouldn't work. Their customer service must have sent me 20 videos, always with great enthusiasm. I would definitely buy from them again.
Diamond #2:
I purchased a 3-carat crisscut in the most beautiful custom pave setting from Adiamor. They were very responsive, provided me with everything I needed to make my decision and they kept me updated on the status of my order. Start to finish, I think it was about 5 weeks.
Diamond #3:
There was nothing wrong with Diamond #2 (which I sold to WP Diamonds, also a great experience), I just missed my round cut diamond that I lost. I purchased an HRD diamond from Brilliance.com, and WOW I am dying at how beautiful it is! I was concerned it wouldn't be up to the standards of my GIA/AGS stones but it is truly triple E and the color grading is surprisingly white.
Brilliance.com Review: Their website triggers me a little because I'm antisocial and I don't want to speak to humans. You have to request most videos and certs. That having been said, I requested several and they were very responsive but not pushy or hard sell. I wanted a strong fluorescence stone which meant I had to see it in direct light to make sure it wasn't hazy. No problem, they got a video from the lab right away. Their customer service (Jennifer and Danielle) was absolutely OUTSTANDING and the quality of workmanship is a ten out of ten. I have a thing about symmetry and things that are barely crooked, this ring is so perfect. Their setting prices are so reasonable!! They carry lower color stones which I was seeking in addition to the highly white stones, so I was very happy. It took 6 weeks from order to arrival.
Others I worked with:
James Allen: JA was very responsive, but couldn't get me a video of a fluorescent stone in direct light for their online inventory so I could make sure it wasn't cloudy (rare, but I needed to be sure). Their customer service was very quick and professional though, and their stones as a whole I find so well cut I could watch those videos forever.
Lauren B: This was very disappointing, Lauren B's settings are my faves, I love blingy tall rings. Their website it the worst, though. no stones to preview, no prices on settings... for people who don't like people and want information before wasting time it's not fun. I sent them a heartfelt email outlining that they are my favorite online jeweler and I was wondering if they carry lower color stones and I sent them what I was looking for as well as my $30k budget. NO RESPONSE. If someone takes the time to tell you how much she loves your work, she wants to purchase from you but your website makes it impossible to figure out if she can, you should at least take the time to say thanks so much but sorry we don't carry what you need. I will never in the future shop there again.
Israel Diamonds: I requested a stone video twice but it took three days to get a response. The timezone difference made communicating very difficult between US and Israel because it put a day between responses. They were helpful, though, so no complaints if you find a stone you like.
