I have wanted a portrait cut hexagon pendant for a very long time. Won’t say forever because I never heard of portrait cuts until about two years ago. I was researching rose cuts and there was an article that said rose cuts are not for everyone because their facets allow you to see through the stone. The article said something along the lines of, if you want a diamond you can’t see, just go ahead and get a portrait cut. Well, I googled and then fell in love. Especially with the hexagons — so elegant. But with the recent trend in geometric diamonds like kites and bullets, portrait cuts had become kind of spendy. I managed to find a round one in my budget and set it in a ring, and I still love it. But what I really wanted was a hexagon. For the past two years I have been watching Instagram and Etsy and the trendy online vendors to find just the right one.

Lab grown diamonds have made geometric shapes more accessible in price. Etsy vendors started selling portrait cuts in LGD and even moissanite. I figured I could find something around a carat in my price range. Then this little 0.54 EGD showed up on Amba Jewel. A big part of the allure of this cut for me is subtlety and irony — instead of a piece of glass that is intended to be passed off as a diamond, we have a diamond that a lot of people will disregard as glass. So I went with this one.

In the meantime, I started enjoying jewelry that does stuff — spinning rings, puzzle rings, stacking geometric rings, magnetic diamonds and bracelets (the physical force, not the copper ones).

Amba Jewel previously had made a custom rose cut ring for me and it is crafted a lot better than the average Etsy vendor can do. So I figured why not ask if they could do this.

And they did and it is awesome. Thanks for reading!

I like this

- This is everything. OMG. I feel this. I hear you. ❤️

Do you have preferred orientation for “front” vs “back”?

Love it. What length chain will you use, do you think?

Nope!

Thanks. I am going to try 16 and 18. I do not own a long gold chain so I might try a costume chain from Amazon to see if 24-30” would look good on a high collar blouse.

So, so cool! I love it!
