Bypass ring

I was originally considering a halo for my fancy intense yellowish orange pear diamond, but now I'm leaning more towards a bypass ring design. I've found a white diamond at JA that's a good size and proportion to mine but I'm not totally happy with white/orange contrast. What other color of stone would be a good match? Doesn't have to be a diamond.

I personally love Orange/Green or Orange/ Brown (conquac). Those would be my color preferences. Though be careful with brown because it might bring out the brown in your orange diamond.

For a bypass, a FCD will go best with another FCD because of the dispersion and saturation of colour.

Yeah, I was kind of worrying about that as well. I'm also considering a non diamond cabochon so I wouldn't have to worry about matching dispersions.

I played around with a couple of my FCDs and other coloured gemstones and they just don't go well together in a single ring unless the FCDs are matched sidestones or the main star of the piece. I have not tried placing them next to cabochons though.

Have you thought of demantoid garnet?

do you really need another stone? i'm thinking bypass ring but with metal detail on the "tail"......your stone is lovely and could stand on its own.

This could be lovely, with a nice leaf detail in rose gold or yellow gold, mirriring the shape of the FCD?

I like this idea! Or your original idea of haloing it.

I vote grey diamond! Get a yin yang thing going on mix metals buttery 18k for the yellow diamond side. White unplated gold for the grey diamond side.... Leibish has a sale going.... :naughty:

Forgive me but my husband is a painter. I asked him "What would be the best contrasting color for yellow?" and he replied "purple" He does amazing work so my vote is a purple stone.

I think a demantoid garnet would be great!

+1

Just to help you spend more money, I'm putting my yellow FCD together with my purplish pink FCD in a single ring because the two colours go well together.

Chrono I like where you are going with this! 8-)

I tried it next to my unset pear demantoid (more of a olive green-brown than straight green) and it looked pretty good. It's not a bad size too, a bit bigger than my FCD but not horribly so.

You're right that it probably doesn't need another stone but I think I'd like to have 2 stones.

Hee, yes I was looking at their sale. I'm not sure a grey would work for me though. I tried it next to my other 2 FCD (yellow-brown and yellow-green-grey) and I wasn't wowed by the contrast.

It's not straight up yellow, it's yellowish orange. Would that be a different answer? I didn't have a nice purple stone to compare it to but I did put it next to my violet-ish blue sapphire and the colors looked nice but I would have preferred better saturation on my sapphire. I probably would want a cabochon in a sapphire to avoid the dissimilar dispersions too.

The stone I really liked it next to was my mahenge spinel. Unfortunately, it's the wrong size and shape.

What are the proportions on your diamond? Heaven help me, I have so many mahenges bookmarked I could find you a match in less than five minutes!!

Only the one on the left is still available. Measures 7.7 x 5.3 x 4.4

It's 5.56 x 3.56. Those stones you posted below are gorgeous, but a bit big.

Maybe you could get a larger piece and have it cut to the proper size. I'd love to see your diamond beside a mahenge. I'll be it would be stunning!

I like the yellow/pink combination. Saw pic of similar ring on DBL site and it looked really nice.

re the 2nd stone/tail: the cab idea works for me in my mind's eye. wouldn't compete with the FCD but would be a splash of color.

btw, i'd go purple or a color with purple tones. your FCD has orange to it and i believe orange/purple to be a better combo than orange/green.

I have a whole folder of saved pictures of bypass rings, but I wanted to show this one first. Not only does it have a lovely pear, but it is a one stone bypass, and gorgeous if you ask me!

Here is the collage of many different rings.

Some other pretties that didn't make the collage for some reason.
