Cabochon sapphire help

Hi, I’ve been searching for a cabochon sapphire ring and haven’t found the perfect setting. So I decided to have a ring made, and not my designer and I have found two great options for stones and I need help choosing. These are both in a gent’s setting, however, will be reset in an art-deco-ish feminine setting with prongs north south east west.

So, the stones. I love them both. The lighter one is 7.27 carats and has a nice high peaked dome, though slightly lopsided. The darker one is 10.38 carats and the shape is perfect, I absolutely love the cobalt color though it is a bit darker than I was wanting. Will the darker one look lighter in prongs?

Huh! Though accepted wisdom is generally that stones lighten in prongs, I'm not sure that's true for cabochons. Most of the light entering a cabochon is from the top, after all, so shouldn't be affected.

Anyone who has more experience with cabochons want to chime in?

They're both lovely though!!

Tricky. I think the bigger one is too dark (this is for my taste anyways), and the lopsidedness would drive me batty on the small one. However, if it wouldn't bug you, I really like the color a lot more on that one!
