I’ve always had rings made based on basic sketches so this is my first CAD. It’s actuallg finished and I already approved it and suddenly had a panic attack that I hadn’t asked your opinions first! Haha

Please share your thoughts on these designs. I was going for a really sleek and simple ring. The band is just 1.6 mm and I’ve asked to reduce metal as much as possible. Do let me know if you have had such thin rings before, this will definitely be my thinnest. This is also the first ring I will have without miligrain! So let me know if you think some parts of it would merit from some (hehe )

Can't comment on the CAD as I am not an expert.
I personally would not have a shank that thin as I am heavy on my hands.
Besides, I have chubby fingers, and a thin band would make one looks like a beef joint tied up with a string, if you know what I mean, and it is not a good look.
It is a nice design with good proportions IMHO, and the stone is very nice if it is the same in real life.

DK :))

Is there a reason why you are getting such a thin band? I’ll worry about structural integrity/easily bending the ring.

I think this does have a simple, nice look. The 1.6mm will look delicate. I think the ruby e-ring in my avator is about 1.6-1.8mm wide, because the pave diamonds on the band are 1.5mm in diameter. I think that as long as you are careful, and the tourmaline isn't too big/heavy, you should be fine. No idea what ct size stones you're putting in there, but for reference my ruby is 1.14ct with 40 points of diamonds. If yours is twice the weight, then I'd hesitate to say a 1.6mm width for the rinb band is OK.

Would you also consider double prongs or tab prongs around the asscher to exaggerate the shape a bit more?

Thank you so much :) it’s actually a blue tourmaline though I may do a green also similarly.

I recently got a 1.8 mm spinel ring which just feels perfect to me. Here it is.

So I considered 1.6 mm for this one.

I also realised I have a blue zircon ring that is even thinner and may be closer to 1.6 mm. I just never checked. Boy do I need the right tools! Here is the blue zircon ring next to the pink spinel ring. Two rings are making my finger bulge a bit but usually there’s no problem.

I'd want all the prongs to curve in more towards the bottom of the basket.

Thank you so much for sharing a great reference pic! They will curve a bit when set but because of the design for the surprise stone I’m not expecting too much of a curve. But I will check with them

I thought I’d do single prong because I already have a super similar square tourmaline in a double prong ring! And since there are trillions also I just thought the lesser the metal the better. But I am hearing that people like double prongs more in such settings. Is there a particular reason why you think so?

My tourmaline is 2 carat and the trillions are light, just like 0.3 I think. But let me check with them. I can increase width if it compromises strength. Love the ruby ring! I had a band like that too. Now that I think about it it was very thin maybe 1.5 mm!

I’ll definitely check Now! That would be the worst!

But I see very thin bands sometimes on three stone rings online and just really like how comfy they look. My two rings on the thinner side are so much more wearable than my 2.5 mms. Just comfort I suppose was the aim. Plus I’ll barely see the band because the three stones will cover most of my finger.

I like both CADs. I gather you chose the 2nd one with the round detail on the basket? It's a pretty style. The 1.6mm thinness would scare me. LOL Maybe that jeweller has some different shanks for you to try out. Could be 1.8 might be a nice compromise. I like double prongs or very thin tab prongs which would emphasize the cut corners ( and the shape).

What size is the mint tourmaline? As long as it’s around 7mm I think a 1.6mm thin shank would be fine. There are ladies who have halo rings of those dimensions in the RockyTalk section but I think if the stone gets bigger, you will have to make the shank proportionally thicker.

I’ve gone ahead with your suggestion and decided 1.8 mm sounds good enough to me. Thank you, with this ring I don’t want to take any chances. This will set my absolute favourite gemstone yet!

It’s around 7.5 mm but just in case I’ve decided to make it a 1.8 mm band.

I’ve decided to keep the squarish design and go for a little thicker shank and gallery! Your advice made me realise this is NOT the time to experiment with some ultra thin ring. It’s for my neon blue tourmaline which I doubt I’ll ever be able to replace!

Glad you're going with a thicker shank!:appl: The one on my ring is 2mm which will be fine. (stone is 2.34cts)

So even at 2mm, my ring spins a little depending on the day and time of year. I have a square shank which helps minimize this quite a lot. (its also very very comfortable).

I have double claw prongs on mine. If you go that route make sure they make them even because you'll be able to tell if they're not with that square stone.

I love your ring! I’ve always wanted one like it. Please share more pics!

I have gone with a thicker shank- 1.8mm and gallery now and I will have single prongs. Double prongs - I do understand what you mean because I already have a square stone with double prongs. They are even enough, not sure if they are perfect.

I wanted to ask one more thing, are the French cuts here 2 mm or smaller?

Thank you, I am so flattered =)2
It came out of a simple sketch I made and I’m so glad it’s totally mine , I didn’t take inspiration from any existing design. Somehow that makes it feel more special to me

Gorgeous! :kiss2:
Good job on designing it. :geek2:
