Hello all,

Need some help with providing CAD direction to my jeweler. I originally had my heart set on a victora canera Emilya, but life got in the way and husby and I got hit a bit financially- I couldn't in good conscience force my husbands hand to agree to that expensive of a setting.

So, to the family jeweler i have gone who is a wonderful and patient fellow, and who has done quality work on many many pieces. I know my ring will come out well (not VC or LM, I'm not crazy) but O want to provide the CLEAREST direction possible to make it easy for him.

I am attaching my inspiration ring ( edge29's VC halo) which is almost identical in shape/ dimensions to my stone, a CAD i found on pricescope that seems to do a good job of showing what i am looking for, as well as the first round of CAD's my jeweler sent over.

Another question: what size melee do you think are being used in the VC halo? 1.3MM or smaller?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Allright so I took a rough stab at trying to make diagrams to explain to my jeweler what i wanted, using someone from PS's CADs that I thought looked good. If someone could just chime in to tell me if the diagrams were clear, I would be super appreciative!

The angle of the halo jumped out at me as a key difference, and I think you captured that. I might even draw a line parallel to the tables of the diamonds in the halo to illustrate the angle, though that could also make the drawing more cluttered. This is a local jeweler, right? So you can also explain in person if necessary.

Another possible difference that I see is the size of the melee. It's hard to say because your jeweler's CAD has holes and the reference has the diamonds drawn in, but it looks to me like your jeweler may be using smaller melee diamonds than the inspiration pieces. I would ask about it and say that you want minimal metal to show.

I'm not sure if he just didn't have time to clean up the CAD but 3 other things jumped up at me.
1. CAD 1 - probably forgot to delete the shank showing up under the donut or seat
2. CAD 2 - rounded shank. The original looks to have flat sides.
3. Your ring is a full eternity whist the original is from 7 to 5, allowing room for minor sizing, strength and wearability.

Thanks Chrono and Urseberry!

Chrono, I preferred the rounded look and asked for the full eternity- I should have specified that. I love the more fluid nature of all hand done rings, and my biggest peev with some CAD created rings is how angular the rings seem to be when they are finished, if that makes any sense.

Other than that, do these directions seem pretty clear?

I thought the same until I received my CAD/cast ring from ERD. Could have fooled me for a hand forged ring.
