And, FWIW I like ForteKitty's suggestions above.
I think having a more open back is a great idea. Do you think having the back piece small might cause the pendant to flip?ForteKitty|1394496011|3631350 said:This is a personal preference, but I would make the back piece a little smaller than the front, so that it tapers in a bit. I would also have the back open a little more, so it's easier to clean the diamond's pavillion.
The beaded chain will go through the scrolls at 10 and 2. Is there a particular reason you like the taper? Is it more comfortable or make the diamond look bigger? Won't that shift the weight so it flips forward? My friend has a prong set diamond and it constantly has that problem.ForteKitty|1394527483|3631602 said:I don't think a taper of 10% or so will cause the pendant to flip, since the back piece is still flat and will rest against the skin. Will the chain go through the scrolls? Or will it be attached? I found that as long as the majority of the weight is on the bottom when worn, meaning the chain is threaded or attached at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock or above, then they won't flip. The closer they are to 9 and 3 o'clock, the more the weight shifts to the middle and will cause flips.

Ahh I see what you mean now. Yup her chain does sit on the outside of the two top prongs! I never thought of bass drums but now I've got the song "Just beat it" stuck in my head haha !ForteKitty|1394572769|3631955 said:Your friend's prong set diamond... does her chain loop through the basket so the basket moves freely along the chain? If so, I'm assuming it sits on the outside of the top two prongs? If that's the case, then the weight is centered towards the middle of the pendant (looking at it from top down). When the weight is centered towards the middle, they will flip because it's already heavier in the front with the diamond there. For your mom's pendant, I don't see it moving forward very much it should still be much heavier on the bottom, provided they thread the chain through the correct location.
I prefer a slight taper because a straight bezel looks like bass drums to me. I prefer my jewelry to look more curvy, especially with the scrolls. It's just a personal preference, and I prefer just a tiny bit of tapering. I'm not advocating a martini type of taper because those don't look comfortable.
Thanks I'm the lucky one though. I have a really great mom!msop04|1394571422|3631937 said:Hospatogi|1394567172|3631888 said:The beaded chain will go through the scrolls at 10 and 2. Personally, I think a slight taper will make the design less "bulky" -- it shouldn't flip forward as long as the angle isn't too drastic. I love the back design as is, and I would just clean it in an ultrasonic. She is one lucky mom, indeed!!
