Calling all Rhody brides

I''m desperately seeking a talented makeup artist as well as a hair stylist for my July 4th wedding in Newport. My photographer recommended a couple of ppl but neither of them are available on that date. Do you girls have any suggestions? Thanks!

OMG! You are getting married in Newport? I LOVE that town. We are planning to do a big 10th anniversary party there. What venue are you using? We were thinking of hiring either Belcourt Castle [because of the organ], Marble House [gold room], or Rosecliff [ballroom].

Oh, I did not answer your question. I don''t know of any makeup artists in the area but you might want to consider this approach. I had my makeup done by a woman at Filene''s [yes, it was a while ago!] and it was spectacular. In talking to her I found out that she worked also as a private makeup artist and would be happy to do makeup for events. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I did with her card. So, what I am suggesting is that you might go to some of the special makeup events at a local store [don''t know where you are but there is a Nordstrom''s in Providence] and when you find somebody you like you can ask them to do your makeup for your wedding. As a matter of fact, I think it was Macy''s Chane counter that did all the makeup for the ladies for my DH''s grandmother''s 100th b-day party [of course they all bought a bunch of stuff too!].

Also, my people are willing to travel [for a fee, of course] to do the hair and makeup for the Nweport do.

I booked Kristin Greene and Stephanie Gomes, but I think those may be the people you are referring to that are already booked? I know Kristin G. and Kristin S. work together a lot. The other hairstylist I heard a lot about was Kymm Devlin, but she was booked for my day already. I was looking for someone to come to me, cause there aren''t many salon options in Bristol. I don''t have any personal experience with these people, just seen their photos, etc. I guess I''ll have my trial sometime this spring.

I saw your post on the Knot, hope someone else has some suggestions for you!

Blu- Thanks for the suggestion I don''t always have good luck with ladies at the makeup counter, but I think that has more to do with them hoping to make the sale as quickly as possible to move on to the next person. We''re getting married at the Castle Hill Inn & Resort. It is a lot less dramatic and oppulent than some of the venues you mentioned, but the views from there are stunning and the food is delicious. If you like modern, check out Belle Mer. That was my first choice but we couldn''t get a good date until 2009.

Basil- I was hoping you''d respond! Kristin Greene is the person I was referring to. I don''t have any contact info for Stephanie Gomes, although I have heard a lot about her. If you could share that with me (if it doesn''t violate forum policies) I''d really appreciate it! I found a few others off of the knot, Wendy York and My JoliVisage- but I haven''t heard anything about them. If all else fails I could use my stylist in Boston- not sure how much he''d charge though to come out to Newport. Any luck with your RD plans yet?

I know Kristin Greene sometimes recommends one of her colleagues to brides on days that she is booked, but I don''t remember the name.

I don''t live in RI anymore so I haven''t had time to try any new places for our rehearsal dinner. But hopefully we''ll have a chance during the few days we''re home for Christmas, but there''s a lot of other hectic stuff going on. I have an appointment to go up to Boston to try on bridesmaids'' dresses with my brother''s girlfriend, though! Have you had any luck with your RD?
