How did you get on at Cabra Castle? I have a soft spot for it and would love to hear how they treated you! Did you book a date?

BF and I have a date we''re sentimental about and in the particular year we''re thinking about getting married, that date just happens to be a Saturday. I am so itching to know if they''re free that date! BF says the day I hand in the *ack*thesis*cough* I can ring them and enquire, but not before...

Hey Delster

We got on brilliantly!! I have a post here somewhere about it but we booked the 18th of June 09 which is a Thursday. For summer dates, they didn''t have a Saturday until 2011 or a Friday until 2010 so we booked a Thursday and we only got that one as someone hadn''t paid their deposit yet. It was crazy. But it is well worth it-it''s fabulous. The staff are so friendly-they were with us for over four hours the first day D and I went down and then the weekend after, D and I went down with our parents and they spoke to us for over 5 hours-they were just so nice. We had lunch there when we were down with our parents and the food was to die for. Really really tasty. You should definitely inquire about getting your name on a date if it''s for the summer. We had to pay €2000 for our deposit also. I''m just in love with it

When are you handing in your thesis? Perhaps you could give a sneaky call to them to check......

But I'm so glad you had a lovely time and they treated you nicely! I've eaten there before (being sort of local and all!) and yes, the food is gorgeous

I guess I could call and ask but it looks like it's pointless eh? The date is in Spring but it's a popular weekend... Also I'd feel like I was betraying BF by going behind his back. Daft, but it's how I'd feel.

Thesis won't be handed in until April...

You never know for spring-they might have something. We could only do June, July or August as I''m in college for another couple of years. I was hoping for July but June will work out just as well, plus it''s nearer!

I was the same-I had heard that they were booked for lost of saturdays but I didn''t want to ring until D and I were properly engaged as he didn''t want me too!

I was thinking last night I should set up a sign or something outside my home place on 18th June 2009 saying "congrats Bee* and D!!!"

My folks will think I''ve gone gaga

I am 99% certain we''d be out of luck - it''s actually Paddy''s weekend. Oh well. I can hope on a cancellation list, eh? And plan for a soggy tent up on the Hill of Tara as a backup. We''ll be delightfully illuminated by the M3 in the background!

I noticed you mentioned about getting a swing band - have you ever gone to the Dublindy nights in the Palace? I''ve gone a couple of times and it''s great craic, I had a ball!

You must be so excited with your trip to NY coming up soon! Dress and wedding band shopping, yippee!!!
36.gif

hehe the sign would be cool
3.gif
What year are you hoping for? I''ll keep my fingers crossed that the date will be free!! I haven''t been to Dublindy nights-will have to check that out-is it the Palace on Camden Street? That used to be our haunt when we were 17/18! It will be fun to return!!! And I cannot wait until NY. So excited!!

I don''t want to give away where I live but, eh, if I put out a sign you couldn''t possibly miss it! You''ll be driving from Dublin right? If so, you''ll have to go right by our house. No other route available! Oh it would be funny! BUT... I have NO INTENTION of still being a KIPPER living at home in June 2009! So arranging it would require no small amount of ingenuity...
2.gif

The sentimental date is on a Saturday in 2009. It''s the Saturday after Paddy''s Day. I wonder would that weekend be any less popular than the Saturday before? I bet the Monday before will be popular too as Paddy''s Day is on a Tuesday that year...

Anyway on a more fun note for YOU, check out Dublindy - Route 66 and you can (sort of!) think about reliving your crazy teenage nights!

You will have a wonderful time in NY you lucky ducky!

yeah we went the N3 last time. I''ll wave at every house next time we drive down-keep an eye out!! I''ll definitely keep my fingers crossed that you get that date! Are you definitely set on Cabra Castle like I was?! I didn''t view anywhere else-I just knew it was the place I wanted it at.

Thanks so much for that link! That looks so cool-will definitely go to some of those classes. I''ve just emailed it on to D so I should get the "...do we have to?.." email back soon

So did you?

PS - no, not 100% set on Cabra Castle, just have a soft spot for it is all!

No I didn''t get the email! I think he''s just resigned himself to it. It was him that wanted to do it in the first place-when we were in NY in the summer, we went to Swing 46 for dinner and they teach you how to swing dance there. So after a few drinks he thought that it was great fun and suggested it for our wedding...luckily I have a good memory as I remembered when he forgot the next day

Aw he's a great sport! You'll have so much fun at the classes and just think of how wow-ed everyone will be at your wedding - you have a whole year to practice so you'll be total pros!

Hopefully! We''ll probably still do the shuffle for the first dance though

For some reason PS won''t let me post replies in your threads about Cabra Castle or your photographer!!! So, anyway, I voted for Chadwick, and he''d be followed by Icon, then Dillon. Did you ring Chadwick in the end? How did you get on?

I wanted to ask you about something you mentioned in amy_dub''s thread but I didn''t want to threadjack. You said you plan to use the local church in Kingscourt and I was wondering, since that is in the diocese of Meath, what are the arrangements like? Will you need letters of freedom? Will the Meath diocese accept your pre-marriage course if you do it in Dublin? etc... I''m wondering is it much hassle as sometimes BF and I talk about getting married in the town where we met, which is sort of halfway between both our home towns and has a lot of meaning for us both!

Not to butt into your private convo here ladies (oh, but I am doing just that, haha!), but I just checked out the website for Cabra Castle and it is DIIIIIIIIIIIIVIIIIIIIINE. I too am thinking about having a castle wedding if J and I decide to get married on this side of the Atlantic (as opposed to back home in the states), so I love seeing what possibilities are out there! So elegant and beautiful!!

hi Delster! We''re meeting Chadwick in just over two weeks so hopefully he''ll be our photographer! He''s been great to deal with so far so I''m optimistic about it. We both have to get letters of freedom from our parishes and they will accept our pre-marriage course if we do it in Dublin. When you''re sending in your notification to the state you have to send it to the place where you''re getting married also. We''re meeting up with the priest in a few weeks but so far it doesn''t seem like we have to do too much extra work. It just seems to be a matter of doing a couple of things twice as in doing it in our church and then going to kingscourt and doing things there. The only thing that can be difficult is that a lot of priests won''t do the ceremony if you''re from outside the parish so you have to bring your own priest.

Thanks Gwendolyn! You should definitely get married in a castle!! They''re so beautiful!

Yay, glad to hear your're optimistic about the photographer. Hope the meeting goes well!

I thought only the woman had to get letters of freedom? I'm glad to hear that's changed!!!
36.gif
And I'm relieved to hear it's not such an ordeal. My Mum had a horrible time getting a letter of freedom from a parish she lived in for just one year while she did work experience. She was only there weekdays and she couldn't remember the house number of the address she was in digs in but they still demanded all the exact details! Another friend of mine had to get a letter of freedom from a parish in Cork because her parents lived there for a few months when she was a baby. Like she got married to someone else while she was a BABY?!?

Did you hear the whole fuss on Liveline two weeks ago about this? A bride was getting married in Kilmainham Wood on a Sunday (Kilmore diocese allows it) and she didn't know a priest to bring. The local priests wouldn't do it as they'd have said Sunday Masses already and would be over their 'limit' for the day. In the end some priest from Tipperary rang in and said he'd drive up because he wouldn't see her stuck - even though he didn't know her from Adam! She was having a Cabra Castle reception too I think.

Gwendolyn, come on, join the castle love-in!

Yeah we were told that we''d both need letters of freedom. Hopefully there won''t be too much of a problem actually getting them. I''m waiting to see the priest in Kingscourt to clarify all the details before I ask the priest that I would like to do the ceremony but I''ll let you know how it goes when I meet him. It''s the one part that I''m dreading!
