Hi, have you seen a HCA 3.4 that gets a 0 for light performance on the AGS DQD performance based report? I know the HCA is to weed 'em out, so I guess it would be possible, but I was wondering how common it is to get this?

Also... when using the HCA, I presume the GIA facetware numbers are more accurate to place in the hca b/c they use sarin?

Thanks!

Hi :)

I''ve seen HCA''s with lower scores than 3.4 and AGS "1" light performance outperform HCA''s with 1.0''s that were AGS 0''s. This is not common but they''re out there. AGS "0" with HCA scores over 2 are most certainly out there. Generally the manufactureres we deal with cut all stuff that do fall under 2 but I''ve seen some HCA 2.x and 3.x''s that were just beautiful when it came to practical observation and even in critical analysis. What angle combo were you looking at that caused it to get a 3.4 and if I can I''ll help shed some light on the situation for ya (pun intended

Hi Rhino!
Ellen just mentioned earlier today that she saw 4 000''s side by side and could tell a difference!

The angle combo on that one was 32.7 and 41.5 - it just caught my eye when I saw it was 0 for light. Since the angles threw me I decided to run it through the HCA and was surprised!

What do you think of an angle combo of 35.23 and 40.83 with a table of 55.7 and depth of 61.78? :)

I would love to see the scan on such a stone - I suspect it would have some pavilion and upper painting if it was able to pass the AGS grading system. Without that it would probably loose some contrast (painting on slightly deep stones can add contrast and scintillation.

Also I suspect such a stone would not have enough fire - it would be Ok - but not like an FIC that has a little less light return and a lot more fire. But the spread should be good.
