How long does hair have to be for a sidesweept bun-ish type hairstyle like so? What about thickness? I have thin, fine hair. It is also currently growing out from the Victoria-Beckham-pre-pixie-cut-bob that everyone and their sister had, which means it is layered. The longest layer is at my shoulders. The shortest layer is at the base of my skull now. Will this work?

My other idea is to do what I believe are called S-curls or S-waves for a vintage look. But, are these hard for someone who doesn''t do much besides flat iron their hair everyday? Basically, since I am getting married in remote South America, I have no choice but to DIY my hair. I want something I feel like I can do and that will work with my hair. I have a stylist hired for the at home reception, but not for the actual wedding (when it is actually more important to look good). You just always have the best hair tips and ideas! Thanks for the help.

Can''t answer your questions because I''m clueless about hair, but I just wanted to thank you for posting that first pic! I''m looking for hair ideas for a wedding I''m in this weekend (bridesmaid), and my hair has similar texture to yours, but longer...and this style is really pretty! I''ll print it out and bring it along with the suggestions I have from my hair help thread, and hopefully the stylists will be able to work their magic. Anyway, thanks, and hopefully someone knowledgeable about hair can help you!

Haha- i''m also in a wedding this weekend and want my hair like this-

For the second pic, I''ve also heard them called finger waves, and I''m sure you could find DIY instructions online. I love the first pic though! Hopefully she sees this!

I love those pincurl/fingerwaves. I CANNOT do them myself. CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT

Italia will have the answer when she see''s this thread, she is so helpful when it comes to PSers hair

If it weren''t for her great colouring advice, I would still have that horrible home-red-dye job and not the great colour/foils I chose now.

Anyhoo, I can''t tell you if you hair would be long enough, but I would think a good stylist would be able to add extensions to your hair to get the first look? If not, the second one is very glamorous too!

My hair sounds like it is exactly where yours is at. I too am growing out the reverse bob.

I can get it swept into a side pony tail but there doesn''t seem to be enough hair in the ponytail to make a ''decent'' looking bun. But with a few hair extensions put in before you leave the US or hair peices pinned in to the pony tail on the day to give it more length and volume i think it could work for you. If you haven''t mastered the art of finger curls yet i probably wouldn''t go there, (you probably don''t need the added stress of trying something fairly new on your wedding day) but i love the side bun... it''s similar to what i am thinking of doing. How long till you get married? If you have a bit of ''grow time'' up your sleeve you may not need and extensions. My hairdresser has advised me to stop ironing my hair too since i am trying to grow it.. and it''s working, my hair is looking a lot healthier (and longer) now than it has in a long time!

Now you know you'll have to show us pics, jstar and charbie!

Ah, thanks, sunnyd. They are called finger waves and I found several videos online. However, much like Starset Princess said, I just don't think I could ever pull this off myself.

Totally agree, honey. Italia has helped me find a better flat iron, dye process, and products in reading her other posts. That's why I hope she comes along.

Wow, hawaiianorangetree I cannot believe you committed to growth so much that you stopped flat ironing your hair. I just don't think I could do that. Yeah, after looking at the DIY videos, I don't think I am going to try that on my wedding day. Maybe some other day, but too much risk. I only have about 45 days (EEK!), so there is not much more growth time and I am also at the sad side pony tail stage. I never thought about extensions. I am always so scared of the kiosk that sell them in the mall because they always want to touch strangers (I am sure that is not the only place to get extensions, though).

Shameless bump in case Italia is doing some PSing this weekend.

I''ll try to find one! I just updated my hair thread; I did a very similar style to that first one. I didn''t take any pics of my own hair, so I''ll have to wait for one to surface.
