Hi,

I am getting my pendant set and had asked the jeweler for a jumping hoop to extend a 16" chain to 18". He recommended me an adjustable chain that''s 22" and I can adjust it to any length I want in between. After a search here on PS, I saw Risingsun''s Post.

Risingsun or any other adjustable chain owners, appreciate if you can share the pros and cons of having an adjustable chain? Does it slide where you have to adjust it after an extended us or with a heavier pendant?

I found some better deals on Target, Overstock and Ebay. Not sure if I should go for those or buy it from my jeweler. If it''s a little problematic, I rather get it from him so that he can fix it (on assumption that he provides some warranty).

Thanks in advance!

Hey goodsoul,
I asked for one of these on my diamond solitaire pendant, and I love the versatility of it.
Haven''t encountered any problems.

I''m not 100% sure though what you mean in your question above..can you elaborate on what your concern is?
I guess mine is a fixed pendant, so I may not have the answers you''re after...?

Hi AJ,

I saw your chain with the jump hoop chain and that''s what I asked for but they recommended another type of adjustable chain. It''s 22" and it can be adjusted to any length by pulling it on either end. This is better for me as sometimes I like my chain a little longer than 18".

You can see more pictures and explanations from Risingsun in her post HERE

Here is a picture of the chain from risingsun''s post to give you a better idea (hope she doesn''t mind).

My concern is it seemed to be held in place by friction, I have read one online review of such chain is that it does not hold it''s length and the user has to adjust it every 15 mins. It could be the poor construction of it or the pendant being very heavy. If it''s due to pendant weight, I have no issue on that since my pendant is tiny.

Hoping to hear more feedback and reviews on such kind of adjustable chain.

Thanks!

I have my locket on one, it''s a little larger/heavier than usual but not by THAT much, and I have trouble with it sliding. I have to adjust it often, it''s pretty annoying. I would rather have a few set lengths (maybe 22", 20" and 18") to choose from.

I have a cheapie silver/cz necklace that has a little jump ring attached at 20, 18, and 16 in. The thing is fabulous - the pendant part is fixed, and I don''t experience a whole lot of sliding around. I wish all my chains were set up this way.

Thanks Musey!

That''s exactly what I worry about! Good to know! I will have to talk to him again and see if he has a good return policy. If not, I''ll just go with the normal chain with a jump hoop.

Thanks.

I think it''s probably better to stick to the jump ring type for now. Thanks for chiming in.
